I have permission to buy a new Amp!

Well not until next year! Hehe. But I want to be prepared. Currenly favoring a Boogie Solo 50. Not sure if I need all the head room of a dual recto, but I wouldn't mind the 3 channels. I play mostly heavy metal/hard rock, some blues and quite a bit of classic rock. Any other suggestions? I'm leaning away from Peavey just due to the fact that I hear the cleans aren't all that great, and I'd like something different than a Marshall. Anything else in the Boogie price range that I'm overlooking? (Soldano, Bogner I'm sure are out of my range) Anyone have any experience with the solo 50 or dual recto etc. Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated! :)

I am in the same situation as you. New amp on the horizon but not until next year. I have also been considering a Boogie Single Rectifier but I would prefer an Engl Ritchie Blackmore signature amp. The VHT CL 50 head should be in the same range as the Boogie Solo in terms of price and sound.

Engl has some of amps you should try out: Fireball, Powerball, Screamer 50 Head.

Or how about a Framus 100watt Cobra head?

I am either going to choose the Engl Ritchie Blackmore or the Framus Cobra.

Well if you can afford it Mesa's are killer.

Randall makes an excellent amp for Heavy Metal/Hard rock, you should give the Warhead or RM100 series a whirl... they rock!

Re: I have permission to buy a new Amp!

next year? well, you're going to go nuts until then. good luck! :)

Tell him/her you have switched over to the governement's fiscal year ends on June 30th and you're going with that now. :)

Yeh man...I really pity you, your gonna have some serious GAS until you actually get that amp..

Tough break

Re: I have permission to buy a new Amp!

I love my Single to death. I don't think I could be any happier with my tone at the moment! It's PWERFECT for hard rock/metal tones (the kind that I play as well). It's got a booming sound, a tight attack, and gain for days! In other words, my perfect amplifier! The cleans are also wonderful, beautiful headroom for a 50W. Chiming and crystal clean. Go Recto or Go Home!

Re: I have permission to buy a new Amp!

Hey you should sell that statment to Mesa cos it really makes it sound awesome..

And you'd make Millions!!! :banana::banana::banana::banana:

:D I try my best as a MESA/Boogie Enthusiast. They're great amps, there's no way around that. I'm just trying to share the tone with others!

...an endorsement would be fine...

Re: I have permission to buy a new Amp!

Lol I'm talking about wife! We just bought a new house so kinda have to cut back on the spending a bit, and I really can't make a $1500 purchase without her consent. (She can't without mine, we just don't do that with our money) Hehe its all good, I'm wearing her down! And I can wait. I'd like to try out an ENGL, hearing great things about them. I just gotta find a dealer in the Chicago area. Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: I have permission to buy a new Amp!

Im sure the mesa would sound awesome! And you should definitely try out some ENGL stuff too, the time youve got before you buy should give you plenty of time to do so.

If you're looking for a 50watter give the screamer 50 a try, but as far as a bigger 100watt head take a good look at amps like the Savage 120, the powerball, richie blackmore, and even the SE if you can afford it (its the mother of ENGL's!). Heck just try every ENGL you can get your paws on :D

To give you an idea, here is a clip of an ENGL savage 120 i got off some harmony central guy called onehourburn, its a link to his site with the clip on it and he switches between all four channels without touching the EQ...kinda shows a bit of its versatility:

(hope he doesnt mind me sharing his link with you guys ;) )
