I just bought a guitar off Ebay!

Being a lefty I find it impossible to do what I'd ideally like to do, which is play every guitar thoroughly before I buy it. I've been searching Ebay and Instrument Exchange for a little while now looking for a guitar to bid on. Well today I got bored and looked up "7 String Lefty Guitar" and found a Schecter Elite 007 Guitar. It's in mint condition and apparently hasn't been played much at all. While not made in the US, it has a Mahogany body, Maple neck, set-neck construction, string-thru-body construction with a locking Tonepros bridge, and a 25 1/2 inch scale with jumbo frets.

It retails for ~600-700 dollars and I picked it up for $430 including shipping. Being a lefty guitar I think that's a damn good price and a damn good find! This is my first 7-string guitar and I'm psyched.

Anyone have experience with these guitars? Or Schecter in general?

On a side note, I'm sure I'll be slapping Duncans in there soon enough... what Duncan models are made in 7-string versions?

Schecter kicks major ass. You'll be very happy.

I say a Custom/59 combo would handle anything you threw at it.

Schecters are great bang for the buck.

The necks are typically one the skinnier side of the spectrum, but that might suit your taste just fine.

I'm not much of a 7-string guy, but I've actually played one of these before and liked it. Best of luck with it. Sounds like you got a killer deal.

If memory serves me correctly (because I'm too lazy to hit up the actual webpage ), JB's, 59's, Customs, Invaders, and one or two others are made for 7 stringers.

Let us know what you think when you get the guitar. I keep hearing good stuff about those Schecters.

HAHAHAHAHA, yeah me too!!! I guess that's why a Tele is my guitar of choice.

Anyway, a buddy of mine has one of these. 7 stringers aren't my thing, but it is a pretty badA$$ bang for the buck guitar! I think you'll like it...fill us in when you get it.

What a coincidence, I am going to be looking for a left handed Tele once I have enough money! My intent was originally just to get a tele but this thing kinda showed up out of the blue and just seemed right.

So 7 string pickups = Custom, JB, Invader, Jazz, Distortion and Dimarzio Air Norton, Tone Zone, Evo and PAF. Who has experience with what?

I had a Custom in my Alder Strat... took it out but I remember it sounding great for Drop D or C# ; and this new guitar also has a mahogany body with a maple top... Les Paul woods... I'm still afraid it'll be too trebly.

With this guitar I think I want some outrageous sound that'll just scream. What would give me the most harmonics out of the bridge position? Think, like, Zakk Wylde pinch harmonics on the low B string, etc.

As for the neck, I'm thinking Jazz Model or Air Norton.

Again who has experience with 7 stringers and pickups?

will Mahogany in any way cut the treble of the Custom? I don't think I want that based on my Strat experiences...

I have a 59 in the neck of my LP and it's not quite articulate enough for my taste.

It sucks more than you can imagine... unless you're a fellow lefty lol.

JB... only thing I'm worried about is low end... I seem to like a lot of it... worried that the JB would have too little. Yes even with a 7 string guitar. There's no places that sell 7 string pickups, I'll need to order them, so I'd better make a choice I'll be happy with!

yes, I've suffered being a lefty too..

I just love walking into guitar stores and looking over the wall of guitars 5 times to see if there's a lefty.. and then half the time it's either what I've already got or a cheapo p.o.s

for harmonics, you cant beat the JB. plus, it'll keep it's clarity with such low tunings.

i'd say that or the Custom. and a paf pro in the enck would be great!

They don't make the PAF Pro in a 7 string version, do they? I don't think they do, it's not on DiMarzio's site...

People keep saying the Custom, I don't think you understand, I don't want it!!! I had it in a 6 string guitar before and it was too trebly, though the clarity was fantastic. If Mahogany in any way cuts the treble and warms the sound of the pickup, that is the only way I'll consider it!

I do not like trebly pickups. That's why I've never even considered trying a JB in the bridge of my Les Paul. The whole upper-mid thing puts me off. While it may have great harmonics I doubt it has enough low-end for me. I said that before but no one suggested anything else!

I'm gonna be playing some pretty heavy stuff with the bridge pickup, I like a good deal of low-end and midrange but also clarity, and chopped off treble. Maybe that will help! From what I can see the JB, Invader, Custom (SD) and Tone Zone (DiMarzio) are options. Maybe the Evo too.

And in the neck, uhhh, doesn't seem to be many options... Jazz, '59 (which I don't really want, I want to try something new), Air Norton, and that's about it.

Bumping this up unneccessarily quickly.... say.... how would the Dimarzio Evolution sound in a mahogany/maple topped, set neck 7 string guitar?

The JB is sounding like a good choice, scratch the Invader, probably the Tone Zone, and any PAF models for the bridge...

JB, Evo, SH-6 .... ???
