Hails Guys... i wrote this email to EMG tech support and receive a very fast email BACK... but, in my opinion, or the way i wrote teh email OFFENDED teh guitar otherside the computer and he understood me Wrong, or they didn´t receive education at home, cause i think he sounded a lot Sarcastic with me.
and i dislike that . Q:|

I´ll paste the email here.

1 - should i register as a emg user or something like that?

No. Registration is not necessary.

Don't want much, do you?

i use boss Metalzone as my main distortion, and i have no amp right now... i´m planning on buying a Marshall DSL 100 head or a peavey triple xxx head. both 100/120 watts rms. maybe with the ARRIVAL of those amps... i´ll not use metalzone anymore.

Okay.

my question is, can i reach that sound with emg 81 NECK and emg 85 Bridge?

I suppose. It sounds like your technique should get you there.

if not, can you tell me another EMG pickup that will do the job?
i´ll play a Fender made in japan reissue 1950 stratocaster ...
...snip...
... a emg 89 or a 60 in the neck should do the job and get the tone i described Better than the 81.
are you agree with this?

Not sure. I've never heard your clips.

Also, i would like to know when do you unleash a EMG FORUM

No thanks. I'm the only Tech here, and I get enough "interesting" e-mails as it is.

, And.... (is that a secret or what?) why don´t you Show a charter with all Individual Emg output, bass, middle, highs, etc on the homepage and even in the pack itself of the emgs pickups?

We're not like other pickup companies. Everyone hears things differently. Bass, middle, and highs are not part of our product descriptions.

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

Yah, i thought He´d be more Happy or more .....yah, entusiastic.
that was the kind of email i dislike to receive.

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

well... he sure wasnt very informative, but you didnt post your whole email, did you? there was that odd 'dont want much, do you' remark that was not neccessary.. plus from what i've read he seemed half asleep and very very bored of his job

i think they should at least put a basic chart of their pups up, so you could at least picture what to expect from it...

besides, who the **** cares for an EMG forum.. you can get all the information you need here =)

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

yea man, loads of guys here will tell you all about EMGs... and be nice while you're at it heh

let me see post my email ;...
Hails Guys
My name is João Paulo P. Namy
and i bought 1 Pair of EMG Humbuckers
i live in brazil... and after hearing some artists like Decapitated, Vader and others... playing with emg, i decided to buy a set of pickups and install in my guitars. i bought them, but i didn´t install it YET. i´ll do it in a NEAR Future.
now, i have a few questions to you, and i don´t know if i am sending them to the right adress... maybe to tech support.
here they go

i bought emg 81 and 85.
1 - should i register as a emg user or something like that?
2 - i´m planning to use the 85 in bridge and 81 in the neck. but i have some questions about output and TONE
for the bridge, i want a moderated/high output... A grinding mid response with a mid spike, crystal clear and not fuzzy, brittle or harsh Highs. just highs enough to OPEN the overal sound... and NOT Too much bass, i don´t want to get Boomy, bassy or muddy in the bridge when palm mutting death/thrash riffs and articulation . i play black/death/thrash metal
in the neck, i want a moderated output, full of Highs, mids and just a low/normal Bass response.
i´ll mainly play some sweeped arpeggios and two hands/tapping tecniques.

i use boss Metalzone as my main distortion, and i have no amp right now... i´m planning on buying a Marshall DSL 100 head or a peavey triple xxx head. both 100/120 watts rms. maybe with the ARRIVAL of those amps... i´ll not use metalzone anymore.

my question is, can i reach that sound with emg 81 NECK and emg 85 Bridge?
if not, can you tell me another EMG pickup that will do the job?
i´ll play a Fender made in japan reissue 1950 stratocaster, tuned in D, and i´ll use 0.10 strings, maybe 011.
with 1 tone 1 volume control . and a 3 way switch .fender is alder/ash body, with one piece maple Neck/fretboard. 21 frets.
some of my fellows from Seymour duncan forum that know my tastes and heard my soundclips said that maybe a emg 89 or a 60 in the neck should do the job and get the tone i described Better than the 81.
are you agree with this?

Also, i would like to know when do you unleash a EMG FORUM, And.... (is that a secret or what?) why don´t you Show a charter with all Individual Emg output, bass, middle, highs, etc on the homepage and even in the pack itself of the emgs pickups?
i would like to have 100% sure my emg tone .

Hails and thanks/sorry for all the questions and for my POOR English
Best regards and dark cheers.

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

well, an 85 will give you what you're looking for in the bridge IMO - the 81 has very little mids in comparison, and very high output..

as for the neck, i cant say for sure, i've never fitted it. anyone?

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

That guy is a jerk -

I concur, plenty of knowledgable, friendly people here

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

What about 60, 60a, 89 for the neck? i really don´t want a single coil ina a humbucker housing. eheheheheh
i want a humbucker in a humbucker housing. ahahahah but, with lots or at least Moderated mids, something like 5. lots of highs, 8. and bass... 4.
output... Moderated. Not too much, but not too Low output.

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

hey, With Full Distortion

I have a set of 81 and 85. I'd personally use the 81 in the bridge and an 85 in the neck. The 81 in the neck will accentuate the lows too much but you may like that. Use an EQ before the amp input along with your amp EQ to shape your tone a little more, ie rolling off the treble. Also, running at 18V instead of 9V will give you more headroom and somewhat more openess with EMG's IMO.

Hailçs MR Heavy metal
Thank´s for the Info Man.
ehehhe i´ll try BOTH in the bridge, and see which one i´ll like more. and then, i´ll go to trade them. if i really dislikeahahahahah
the question is that i DISLIKE pickups with scooped/reduced mids.
and i am affraid that the 81 has its mids reduced too much for my tastes.

The best idea is to try the 81 and 85 in the neck and see if you dig the groove like you said. I really like the 85 tone in the neck, it's a full tone, not harsh at all. MrHM :smoker:

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

maybe an 85/85 combo?

the 60 supposedly (if their site is beliveable) has a huge mid spike and is very articulate. i dont know though. i dont trust webpage sound samples, i got to hear the pup from a 3rd party user, like from a forum member or something

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

I went to EMG tech support once and Rick was fantastic. Maybe his reply to you was after some sort of crisis cause I came away thinking he was the coolest pickup support guy of all time.

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

i emailed him once, forgot about it, got a reply 6 months later heh

he seemed cool with me though - that replay WFD got sounds nothing like him

EMG 60 in the neck, and 81 or 85 in the bridge.

From my experience, the 85 makes for a very good shred neck pickup (ala Kerry King & Zakk Wylde). On my amp (Recto) I don't like it's clean tone (to bassy), though it sounded awesome clean on my friends DC-10.

Since I'm a rhythm player (and not a shredder), I've ordered a 60a to replace the 85 (I wanted an alnico pickup, vice the ceramic 60). I'll give a full review in a week or so.

Re: I Just receive this from EMG TECH SUPPORT

Hmmm, I think he just didn't understand what you were trying to get across.

And to be honest, I'm not sure what you were asking either because tone is relative to so many things. I can list ten different pickups that do exactly what you seem to be describing but they all can sound completely different.

I think you need to ask more pointed questions....like, how does an 81 compare to a Duncan Distortion, or what makes a 60 sound different in the neck than an 81.

I'm assuming the guy was probably having a bad day as well...if he's the only email tech guy I can only imagine some of the other emails he gets.
