Darkness on the edge of Tone
... Yes, BARE KNUCKLE PICKUPS, of the UK!
As for the obvious question, yes, I did approach Duncan first, but was turned down.
I have a bunch of pups on their way, and will provide you all with my reviews.
And, NO, I will not be getting rid of my Screamin' Demons! The Bare Knuckles will first be going into my Kamikaze 4 project, and then replacing the DiMarzios in My Jem. After that, I will have to seriously consider any further swapping.
First, let me tell you a bit about my experiences in dealing with TIM MILLS, the brain-child of Bare Knuckle. Tim is one of those guys that truly understands the high end, custom market -- he is attentive, polite, knowledgeable, takes his time to make sure you are 1,000% happy before hanging up the phone. (He also plays guitar in an Ozzy tribute band, so we hit it off straight away)
My experiences with Tim are the mirror image of dealing with guys like Wayne Charvel and Laz Gaijic ... as a high end customer, you're about to drop major cash on an item, and you want to feel totally comfortable, not have any doubts. With larger companies, you're left to the vagaries of your local dealer, many of which don't know squat about their product. Duncan is a rare exception, in that this happens to be the best users forum on the internet, with nice, helpful people that are also TONE PROs.
However, Duncan and I couldn't work out an arrangement, and I had to look elsewhere ...
