I just traded my JCM 900 for a Bugera 1960 and a Crate 4x12 cab

So I went and tried out the B-52 AT212 combo earlier today and was unimpressed with it, so on the way back home I ran into the local music store to window shop. Well they had a deal going where if you bought a Brand new Bugera 1960, 1990, a Randall 150G or any Crate Heads that you get a Brand new Crate 4x12 for $99. So I tried out the 1960 and the Crate cab and was really impressed. So I traded my JCM 900 even up for both the cab and head and after 2 hours of jammin in the garage I'm not regretting it. I know someone on here is going to wanna beat me with a belt for saying this but the head and cab sound alot better than the 2x12 combo did and the fx loop actually works like it is supposed to. To me the JCM 900 was just lacking in all areas.

If something doesn't work for you, replacing it with something that does makes perfect sense.

it takes all types to make the world spin. Sounds like you are happy!

Re: I just traded my JCM 900 for a Bugera 1960 and a Crate 4x12 cab

Just tell me that it was a JCM 900 Dual Reverb and NOT a Dual Master:barf:
The Bugera might sound good today but will it sound GREAT like my 1990 JCM 900 Dual Master in 21 years?

Re: I just traded my JCM 900 for a Bugera 1960 and a Crate 4x12 cab

yes - i really hope it was a dual reverb you swapped too and not a master volume...

I've definitely got my eye on a 1960. At the very least, they can be upgraded with new trannies, pots, etc ... and of course, tubed to your taste, if you ever feel the need. They sound pretty good as they are though.

Don't worry guys it was a 1998 JCM 900 Dual Reverb 2x12 combo.

Re: I just traded my JCM 900 for a Bugera 1960 and a Crate 4x12 cab

sounds like your happy not a huge jcm 900 fan to harsh for my taste but I probably would have put on craigslist to trade before I traded it to a music store.!!

Well Guys, guilt got the best of me I returned the Bugera 1960 head and got my JCM 900 combo back.

The Half stack sounded awesome and did what I wanted it to do, but some little voice in the back of my head along with my gut mixed with guilt told me to see if I could get the Marshall back. Luckly the manager is really cool, he told me not to worry about it and that since it was a trade he is not gonna lose out, he also told me he would have prolly done the same thing.

they dont sound bad the bugeras I have to admit .

but where they save money is on the build quality and thats what makes amps

Wait... Crate makes new stuff? i didn't even think they were in business or atleast didn't produced anything anymore.
Too bad it didn't work out with that Bugera.

Re: I just traded my JCM 900 for a Bugera 1960 and a Crate 4x12 cab

you made a good move getting your JCM back.
Bugeras sound good, but they are notorious for their crappy build quality and lousy reliability.

Crates are just meh overall.

Save up your money and upgrade from a Marshall to something kickass like a Splawn or a Bogner or something like that. You will have kickass tone, lots of mojo, and reliable equipment that will hold its resale value if you decide sometime down the line that you don't like it.

Re: I just traded my JCM 900 for a Bugera 1960 and a Crate 4x12 cab

i was gona say, man, that store ripped you off swapping a Bugera and a Crate for your Marshall.

It's a tough call. JC's are awesome. Check out the youtube videos. You could certainly do a lot worse! If i were as unhappy with my amp as you i'd go for it. JCA's have killer tone. I played a JCA20H last week and it was killer. If i didn't need a full size head for gigging then I would totally take that one. Hopefully I'll have my JCA100H in a couple weeks here. I don't know how they compare because i've never spent any time with with a JCM900.

Edit: I also didn't know they came with Emi Legends. Great speakers IMO.

It's not the JCM 900 I don't like, it's the fx loop I don't like! This amp has a killer tone on both the A&B channels but when I put delay and chorus in the fx loop to my ears it just doesn't sound all that good. I had a talk w/ Glassman last nite on my way to work and he explained everything about this amp to me, the fx loop on it is solid state and not of the best quality and sadily nothing can be done to help make this better. The Bugera 1960 also had a killer tone, and the fx loop worked perfect but like some of you guys said I just didn't get my money's worth from the store. So as of right now I don't know what I'm gonna do.

It just suck's b/c all last summer and fall I jonesed about wanting a Marshall, and I finally get ahold of a decent one for a decent price and in one small area it falls short on me lol!

Good for you! Sounds like you have the right amp now. Good luck with it.

Re: I just traded my JCM 900 for a Bugera 1960 and a Crate 4x12 cab

Well yes if it's the effects loop that bothers you then it's the amp that your not happy with. Well all i can say is try a JCA out. Are you sure you're not just staying with her just because she's a Marshall?
