But can you retrofit an OFR into a fender strat w/o modifications. I don't need a recess on the FR (so i can put on a drop-D tuna). I know I would need a locking nut, but I'm just going to buy a warmoth neck. Could I just go out and buy an OFR right now and put it in a strat?

Everytime I read an answer to this question, they always say "Yes you need to remove wood so you can bend up." If I need to bend up, I'll just use my fingers...

you will at the very least have to drill new holes to mount it with.

you can get a decent guitar with a licensed floyd on it already for as much as a Warmoth neck and an OFR and the tech work required to install the OFR.

then you can see if you even dig the Floyd and upgrade to an OFR later, without molesting your Strat.

that's what i'd do anyway...have two complete guitars built by professionals rather than one and a half guitars all reconfigured and messed with.

I don't think the OFR will drop right in even on the AM standard bodies.

I would just start with the correct body or go with EP's idea.

The only reason I was wondering is because my friend has a messed up neck on his strat and he also wanted a guitar with a floyd rose, so why not kill two birds with one stone.

well i mean a project is a project i guess. i hate butchering cool guitars when there are so many perfectly usable ones, but salvaging one that's been reduced to parts is never a bad idea :smokin:

i think it would be easier to get one of the more modern 'vintage style' bridges and locking tuners tho. probably won't feel the same as a Floyd but it works almost as well.

those new ESP Vintage Plus strats have locking tuners and Wilkinson trems and i couldn't make one go out of tune when i tried. A shreddy Malmsteemy customer said he managed to but i didn't notice...

honestly i'm just prejudiced against Floyd Rose and am trying to spare you guys the trouble hahaha
