Now there are video clips of the Chisel and the Anvil, the latter has got my curiosity just burning..... Has any bought and tried these yet?

Plus the fact that they now come in pickup covers they don't look so ugly and weird anymore....

Besides, if they sound that good in a crapy Epiphone SG (trust me, I own an Iommi Epiphone SG and it's sux crap) I wonder about a good guitar.

The Chisel isn't bad either, but 13k isn't my cup of tea....

Make sure you never try the Dimarzio Steve Morse bridge pickup then. It's under 10k (Dimarzio measures output at 450mv, which puts it in between a Super Distortion and D-Activator.) You might like the Neck model, which measures at 21k (but 250mv).

The Anvil sounds pretty good in person. I was gonna get one, but got a Duncan Distortion instead. I still might get one for one of my Strats. I think the price is what puts people off.

I've owned the D Activator, d sonic, super distortion, and I didn't really enjoy any of them.

Honestly I would think that the blades would make more sense under the treble strings if you do bends.

First impression: Meh

Maybe these are more lively in person. I think Checo tried some Railhammers. Might be worth PM'ing him to see what he thinks about them (he doesn't post much).

Have you thought about trying the new DiMarzio Illuminators?

Funny thing with dimarzio is that they seem all to be awesome for solo/shredding dudes, but with Thrash Metal rhythm they are half as good as duncans. I did my 1st and 3rd album with a DD and a PATB2, and our 2nd album was with a Dmz Megadrive. Like I said dmz's are great but for rhythm they are bit lifeless.... And I mean a bit

If your primary focus is thrash metal rhythm, I can see why the MegaDrive wasn't for you. It really shines as a lead player's pickup, as you said. I was mainly responding to your use of the D-Activator and D-Sonic models previously. I found both to be a bit sterile, as well, though the D-Activator was the better of the two, in my opinion. The Super D is more lively, but doesn't really have the clarity for thrash metal rhythms. That's why I figured you should try the Illuminator...it's not like most of the other DiMarzios you've tried. It's punchy, balanced, cuts well and is plenty articulate, but still has great expressiveness and awesome crunch down low. Not too sterile, very versatile, even compared to the Crunch Lab that preceded it.

Any reason why you're not considering another Duncan, though? Just looking for something a little different?

Well, currently I have my SD custom shop 'Tyrannotitan' pickups (the below video) and I just purchased a Black Winter to try out. Been horrified with BKP Painkiller and worse the Aftermath, and have tried other DMZ's like the super D, X2N, Super 3, D Activator X plus those 2 I already mentioned before. But these Railhammers have got my curiosity but I really want to talk with anyone who has tried these.

Re: I know we've talked about Railhammers before, but....

This came out in my feed a while ago:

Interesing. They seem to have alot of cut and pretty good note definition as well as a fair amount of clarity on all the strings. Fluff tunes down quite a bit, he's normally a whole step down at least. On the other hand the cleans sound a bit sterile. It might be the amp though, I know nothing about the Randall he's using.

Well, two factors here, Ibanez guitars can sound thin when not set up right, sounded like he had the action too low, and the randall amp, thry are no Marshall...... Like EVH5150 they are all fizz, no gutts/growl like Marshalls. I still will try a set

Beauty is as beauty does. If they sound phenomenal, then by definition they look phenomenal.
