I like my EMG's because....

Thames

Great White Malice
I just realized one of the big advantages of EMG designs... they have their own grounding (self-grounding ??), no need to connect the circuit ground to the bridge/strings...

Why ? Because I always electrocute myself :arg: when close to mic with my other guitars, and never with the EMG loaded Strat...

Was it useful ?
:welcome:

Re: I like my EMG's because....

Maybe that's why I love Duncan vintage braid two conductor wires so much.... I don't have to take that extra step and solder a ground.

Wow, you may be really onto something here.

Re: I like my EMG's because....

Yeah...I'm confused on that one as well.

Which EMGs do you use? I have been interested in the 85/60 set for a while.

Scott, you don't solder the braid to the ground?

Sorry, I was being a sarcastic a-hole.

No offense, but to love EMG pups just because of this "capability" is about the most silly thing I"ve read here in a while.

Yes, I solder the braid. How much easier does it get?

Re: I like my EMG's because....

They're double-insulated aren't they, EMGs? I think that's one reason why they don't need you to ground the bridge.

I'm sure I saw a website round here somewhere about grounding issues - it might be that your mics aren't grounding very well if they're grounding through you and the guitar.

Another way I heard you can avoid that though is to use a wireless system for your guitar.

Scott_F, sorry, but that isn't the kind of mutual respect I was hoping from you, really, moreover coming from an admin :dot: We dont need sarcastic discussions here and you should be the first to show the example.

READ : "one of the big advantages of EMG designs" ... I never said I like my EMG DG20 set JUST because of that self-grounding feature. It's ONE of the reasons why it suits me fine for the moment, and for what I'm into.

I really dont know what you're thinking about me or whatever street corner smart a-s-s you think I am.. but I'm offended by your post. Pretty lame post IMHO.

And for those who are "sold" to Duncan.. that's fine ! Read my Sig and you'll see that I'm a Duncan freak too. But when you're into a PinkFloyd project (hence the EMG DG-20 "David Gilmour" pickup set) and you're about to play in front of 4000 peoples in few weeks, and you're serious enough to expect a nationwide tour, then, the EMG might suit your needs, for the reason stated, and some others. Period.

Strat, have you tried any of the popular Duncans like the Air Zone, Breed or Norton?

Thames,

Have you tried the 85 or 60? I have an interest in those.

no sorry, can't help much more. Not a big fan of those anyway, not my style (read : anymore)

What are you into ? and what tone are you after ?

Re: I like my EMG's because....

I wanna try the 60, cuz it sounds rockin' on Metallica's AJFA. The cleans James gets from it... *drools*

Wow, I'm not good at picking up internet sarcasm at all...

Re: I like my EMG's because....

believe it or not, I chose the EMG SA strat set for my "synth" guitar, I have a hell of a time w/ ground loops and hum w/ the GR=33 and the EMG's go along way to settle this rig down, I do prefer the tone of my alinco II's in my Hamer Daytona, but the EMG have their place, and no hum/shock is a feature that pushed me to purchase a set, I'll be giggin them tonight

Re: I like my EMG's because....

i've got the SA's in one of my strats along with the 85 humbucker in the bridge and they are quite good pickups BUT......they(the SA's) aren't so good for giving that clean but distorted bluesy sound.......they are good for clean or distorted sounds but not the in between ones......

So... I'm not that off-the-track !!

BTW, I readjusted the pickups height last evening, and they sounded way much better ! EMG recommends to set them as close to the strings as possible, as long as it doesnt interfer with playing/picking. I like them better now !

Yes bro, that is it! I have heard that from several EMG users that you must set them very close (almost touching) the strings because you don't have to worry about loss of sustain or tuning issues with those.
