I LOVE Double Cream coils and the Custom/59 Hybrid!

Just got this guitar and replaced the BLACK Custom Custom and 59 that come stock with DOUBLE CREAM Custom/59 Hybrid and a 59 Neck.

BTW... for experimentation sake I tried it with the CUSTOM CUSTOM... then a JB... then a CUSTOM and finally a 59 MODEL... put the CUSTOM/59 HYBRID in and it was the hands down winner once again... the PERFECT balance of pure vintage tone with an added ounce of punch without getting compressed...

That's a GMP Roxie... they make THE BEST guitars I have ever played!

I have Double Cream 59 on the way for the neck and I'm trying to get a custom for the bridge of my Les.

^A hybrid between a JB and a CC;)

Actually it is a hybrid of a 59 Model and a Custom Custom... it's one coil from each pickup... the best of both worlds... the end all pickup for me!

Re: I LOVE Double Cream coils and the Custom/59 Hybrid!

....sigh nobody here has any funny bones in their minds.......man of course it is a CC and 59, that was the headline;)
Read and learn...lol I was just having a little go on the screaming obvious:)
Anyways I have made a few hybrids out of a Demon and a 59n, swapped the A2 magnet in my APH-1n for one of the hybrids, it is a very clear and even sounding pickup now, loads of overtones and life.
Love making these different coils work!

Whatcha like about 'em?

Re: I LOVE Double Cream coils and the Custom/59 Hybrid!

DO you custom order the pickups from the Custom shop this way? Or did you take apart 2 pups to make the one you wanted. I'm interested to hear one, but I'm not that brave!

Re: I LOVE Double Cream coils and the Custom/59 Hybrid!

Hi, new guy here. Hmmm... I wonder how much the tailpiece of that guitar affects the tone, and hence the pickups. I have a paul with a trapeze, and virtually the same guitar with wraparound, and the tone between the two is pretty different. Both far different from an R9 with a pigtail aluminum tailpiece.

I think that the trick is finding a great pickup to match the guitar, and the Roxie above may have that match. And judging by the picture by your user name, it appears you have more than one of that guitar!

Seems a bit of a stretch to imagine that combo is the best for all wood!

But hey, what do I know, isn't this post #1?

Re: I LOVE Double Cream coils and the Custom/59 Hybrid!

hmm...

i remember thgat old hybrid thread on the old board, but it was too long for me to read and im lazy :D

how would i go about do that?

Re: I LOVE Double Cream coils and the Custom/59 Hybrid!

The neck pickup is an old 80's Duncan 59 and the bridge pickup I fabricated...
The Hybrid is such a universally great pickup in the fact that it allows the natural tone of the instrument to really shine and posseses just the right amout of drive to get the input section of an amp cooking without overdoing it.
It will not make a bad guitar sound good like a JB model does, but a pickup like the JB tends to mask the natural tonal qualities with it's own voice...
