I made a backing track for y'all

Kablamminator
I mainly made this for Stewie in response to his blues #2, but if anyone else wants to rip a solo or two over this one, please be my guest.

Dirty Blues in A

Post your results here. Maybe I'll do one too :)

Re: I made a backing track for y'all

Sounds great, Stevie. Nice tone, nice phrasing, good feel all around.

Don't know what you set your levels at but there's some massive clipping going on that's not in the original backing track.

I need to save this one and do my own take on it.

myxolidian, nice work. I like the intro you put on there. Very cool.

Rid, nice playing as always. Good bluesy tone.

Hey, sorry for not coming back to this thread in a while.

Stewie: nicely done! I like how you ripped out of the gate with that crunchy, gritty style. No screwing around there!

Rid: sweet! It took you a progression or two to find your groove, but your playing was tasteful and stylish. Great tone too!

myxolidian: Love the tone and the playing! Good interpretation of the backing track.

Hey, I had an idea. I'd like to make a version of the song with a different forum member soloing over each 12 bar progression. If any of you are interested, I'll need a wav or mp3 of just your guitar track. There are five changes, so I'll need 4 other people to contribute (I'll stumble my way through a solo as well ;) ). I'll mix it all together, and post the results here when its done.

I'll make an official thread for this tomorrow, but for now I'm giving Stewie, Rid, and myxolidian dibs on a solo. Are you guys interested?

Re: I made a backing track for y'all

hey ratherdashing, thanks for the dibs...send me your e-mail so I can send you just my guitar solo...cut and paste as you please...

Re: I made a backing track for y'all

Cool, so far I have Stewie, nuntius, and kaffiman. I'm hoping Rid will supply one as well ... (ahem) ...

I'll PM you guys my e-mail so you can send me wav files. Until then, get to work! :)

Thanks!

EDIT: Eric, your solo was pretty awesome! You really nailed the vibe of my backing track. Maybe I'll have to make two of these to fit in all these great players!

Thanks, man. Being that I was sick yesterday helped. I was feeling pretty "blue". :laugh2:

Re: I made a backing track for y'all

Man, this really reveals my ultimate weakness, even though I call myself a guitarist:

I can't play in key very well, but I wanna put something to this. So, my question is, when it goes to D, should I switch keys to D, or stay in A? My ears always play tricks on me.

Are there certain scales that work best? It seems like when I stray from pentatonic type phrases into the 7 modes, I really lose the feel.

I'm going to be getting one of those GIT books with the CD to help with my blues playing.

Oh, and I like the previous entries!

Clip to come this weekend regardless.

Blues soloing is pretty straightforward. Stick to either the A major or minor pentatonic, or a combination of both. That's basically it. The only other thing you need to do is avoid playing the root (A) over the V (E) chord. It sounds pretty ugly when you do.
