I might be tainted

By Elixir strings. I went back and put on a set of D'Addario EXPs, and they feel like regular strings to me. It's been so long since I played anything besides Cleartones or Elixirs, which have the coated feel, that going back to something that feels like a regular string to me is a bit strange. They sound great, and I could probably convince myself to start using them if they were significantly cheaper or sounded significantly better, but the feel is really what got to me.

Re: I might be tainted

Ya know, I might make the switch as well.

Last night I was playin' on my buddy's old American Strat and I said damn what strings are these? Did you just put em on?

He said nope, been on there for 3 months and they were Elixirs. Damn they sounded and felt good.

Re: I might be tainted

I still have Elixirs on my acoustic. Originally, this was because the vendor left a couple of spare packs in the guitar case. Now, it is because I play the thing so infrequently that it never got back to my idea of proper strings.

I hate that furry feeling of "mature" coated strings.

Re: I might be tainted

You could be right. I do not normally purchase coated strings.

Earlier this year, I sold a modified Hamer XT Junior electric guitar to a local character. Knowing him to have severe corrosive sweat issues, I fitted Elixir Nanoweb .010-046 strings. He still managed to slime them up. The coating never had the chance to get furry.

Re: I might be tainted

Never been much on coated strings myself. I did try some D'Addarios and took them off because they just feel thicker than standard strings.

I'm not bad on strings anyway. I always make it a point to wash my hands before playing and to wipe down strings after play.

Re: I might be tainted

I like DR Dragon Skins on the acoustic. I put some neon pink DRs on my daughter's electric and they sounded good and felt good, too. Pretty sure it's the same coating as the Dragon Skins, only colored.

Elixers...no thanks.

Re: I might be tainted

Anyone remember fast fret in the round metal can? This thread got me thinking about it.

The purchaser of the guitar paid for the strings. :deal:

Re: I might be tainted

I used clear tones and elixirs for years. I switched to EBMM Cobalts, and now Daddario,, and Im missing the coated strings. They just sound like new alot longer- for months. Daddarios sound better at first but within days they're muffled and dead
