I need a house in the countryside...

Or, something low volume that sounds awesome? Is there such a thing?

I'm beginning to think my only option is the Fractal Audio AxeFx. The cheaper modelling stuff doesn't do it for me, not the computer based stuff, nor the line6/etc stuff.

I tried a 10w tube amp and it was still way too loud for home practice. I've got neighbours who've been living in a musicianless neighbourhood for decades and are sensitive to my riffage.

The AxeFx costs a small fortune, and buying a FRFR cab to use it with jacks up the price. I could use it with my studio monitors or headphones though.

Any other suggestions? Ideally, a tube amp.

Small tube amp, no more than 5 watts. I love my new Champ head. If you prefer British crunch, try a Class 5 or one of the little 1-watters. If jangle is your thing, a Vox AC4 or similar. Any of these will be improved with a bigger speaker, 10" or 12" in place of the usual 6" or 8".

Then, a quality dirt box of your choice in front. It's hard to get much dirt out of even a small tube amp without some volume. Conversely, it's also hard to get authentic tube tone out of solid-state amps or pedals. However, if you generate most of your dirt in a pedal, having a small tube amp downstream helps take off the sharp edges.

Yeah, I knew I'd have to go dirt pedals, and don't mind doing so.

Given that, my focus would be more on the clean sound... I dig Fender cleans so much check out the champ.

I'm not breaking the law by playing guitar.

I'm within legal sound limits, and within the legal time limits.

I don't even play at unreasonable times. Generally 5-7pm on weekdays, and middle of the afternoon on weekends.

And again, I'm not breaking the law

So stop hassling me, neighbours.

Roland Cube or POD + Headphones. Even a ZVex .1W amp might be too loud for an apartment.

By the way, modern dirt pedals are pretty amazing. The Wamplers and Catalinbreads of the world sound pretty darn good at reasonable volumes. If you could swing a Princeton Reverb and some pedals, that might work.

An amp with a headphone jack is gonna be useful. I say get a small Fender blues jr. and a few dirt pedals. I'd pick the Wampler Sovereign over just about anything if I had a choice.

Something like this, perhaps?

Re: I need a house in the countryside...

No suggestions, but I feel your pain. I've been a homeowner for 10 years, and it was the best thing I ever did for my "tone." I really could begin to explore what amps can do once I got a basement and some space. Today I have more amps than guitars, it that tells you anything. . .

Maybe not the best thing for my tinnitus, but hey. :nono:

Try just ignoring them.

Like the options with the Tubemeister 18 1 , 5 or 18 watts , bedroom quiet and is enough for gigs with reasonable volume.
