I need a new delay pedal

I've got a Hardwire DL-8 that I really like but I'm looking to upgrade to something more. The Hardwire sounds nice but I really don't find it practical for live use. It takes to long for the tap tempo to work and I don't have time to sit down and fiddle with those knobs if I want different delay sounds. It's basically become a one trick pony for me.

I'm really wanting something that I can expand my delay uses with. The biggest must have for me is Footswitchable Presets! I need to have presets that I can store my favorite delays sounds to for easy switching when playing live.

Right now I'm considering the DD20, Digitech Timebender, DL4, and Nova Delay.

I'm leaning towards the timebender but they all look great. The timebender has a few more features that I know I would use (dotted 8th selection and strum tempo, etc.) but I love how you can store each preset to it's own button on the DL4 versus having to cycle through. Anyone have any experience with any of these pedals? Maybe there's one I'm forgetting but I know it's got to have similar offerings to the one's listed. Thanks!

Re: I need a new delay pedal

I'm going to rock the boat a bit and suggest that for your needs, you want the Line 6 M5.

Reasons:

- the delays are really good, and you get tons of them
- actually has more delay models than the DL4, takes up less space, and is true bypass
- dialing it in is easy
- tap tempo is easy
- you can store and access plenty of presets
- it takes a standard 9V power supply
- it's got a pretty small form factor
- the price is very reasonable considering what you're getting
- it can do a lot more than just delay, if you're ever so inclined

I'm really having trouble seeing the downside here...

In 27 years, tried a lot of delay pedals. A lot!!! Favorite digital was the T-Rex, but my two favorites now are AnalogMan ARDX20 and MXR Carbon Copy. I have never used tap tempo live - couldn't be bothered, LOL.

I'm with you there. I'm terrible at using tap tempo live. That's one thing I love about the timebender is the option to strum a pattern or just set up triplets, dotted 8th, etc. at the push of a button or just have it in a preset.

Re: I need a new delay pedal

Just grapevine gossip, however, the talk heard is that digitech is or will be upgrading the Timebender pedal. I have no details. Now that being said, the present timebender is a great pedal, good tones, does everything you want and the struming tap tempo feature works fantastic. I owned it. Sold it to get back to a simple setup plus having both the DL-8 and the Deja Vu, I pretty much covered all my delay needs with those two pedals. A Strymon Timeline is in my future, for sure!!!!!!!!

Re: I need a new delay pedal

Check out the TC Electronic Flashback. That will most likely be my next delay to replace the DL-7 I'm currently using (which is pretty darn good in its own right).

Excellent pedal, as is the PGS exclusive version of it, the Alter Ego: http://proguitarshop.com/tc-electronic-alter-ego-delay.html

No tap tempo per se, but they have the TC "Audio Tap" feature (you hold down the foot switch and hit the strings in time with the repeats).

Re: I need a new delay pedal

No presets, and no tap tempo. I'm guessing you didn't read the OP at all?

No I read it.

Why limit yourself though? You want ease of use along with quality? Get the MXR and another delay either DD-3, 5,7 or 20.

Hey put Line 6 DL4 which is even more tweaking than say the Hardwire delay ( I owned both).

That's why an option might be CC and DD-3. Set them both how he wants em, use dd for tap tempo.

Oh ok, so when you said "mxr carbon copy" you actually meant "mxr carbon copy , but you should get another pedal that actually meets your needs as well." Sorry for the confusion. I don't know how I missed that.

Re: I need a new delay pedal

the strymon looks awesome but it's expensive. I'll have to hunt around for a decent deal on one but with a total $200-$250 budget (and that depends on how much I get for my DL-8), it's not likely. The Eventide timefactor has also gotten high marks but again, it's pricey.

I love the TC electronic pedals. I have the corona chorus myself and love it. The toneprint idea is amazing. I considered the flashback but I think although it has a couple of features I would use (mostly the dotted 8th setting), at the end of the day its basically the same thing as my DL-8. Presets is really what I'm after because I can have the freedom to program different delays prior to a show and easily recall them for different songs. Does anyone know if you can switch presets on the Nova Delay with a footswitch? If so, that may be what i'm looking for.
