I have a Jackson Pro RR and I wanted to change the pickups from SD JB/59 to SD Black Winter I downloaded a wiring diagram for 1 volume 1 tone and a 3 way toggle but the wiring in the guitar isn't wired the same and the guitar has SD pickups in it it looks like the pickups are one soldered to the 3 way toggle if anyone has any advice or info that would be greatly appreciated Ive attached a picture and the two thick wires at the bottom of the picture are the pickupsIMG-1449.jpg

Welcome to the forum!

If you are replacing Duncans with Duncans, it should be a straight swap (the wire colors are the same). What diagram are you using?

Re: I need help changing pickups

Im using the seymour duncan wiring diagram that they offer from the website i tried to upload the diagram but its saying that its too large

Re: I need help changing pickups

there is a wire that goes from a volume pot to the tone pot but its not connected to the pickups

Re: I need help changing pickups

It appears that green just got swapped for black for both pickups. It makes no difference. Why it was done this way is a wonder. So long as red and white are connected together and isolated and the bare goes to ground, it doesn't matter whether you use green or black for hot, so long as you do the same for each pickup. Alternatively, you can connect black and green together and use red and white for hot and ground, or ground and hot. You could even do red and white together for one pickup and green together with black for the other, so long as the red of one with green connected to black goes to the same place as the black of the other (switch or ground).

Is that confusing enough? It shouldn't be. :)

Good luck. What happened with the active pickups and GuitarDoc's advice about how to handle a shaft?

Re: I need help changing pickups

I decided to try changing passive pickups first I was just nervous and the pot i bought are too big for the holes in the pickguard but anyway now that I've changed the passive pickups from SD JB/59 to Black Winter my tone knob is making noise when i touch it

Re: I need help changing pickups

Where are the bare wires for each of the pickups connected, specifically? Please post pictures showing these connections.

When taking new photos, please use your fingers to push things apart so that we can get a good view. The ones you provided earlier would be worthless in this case because they only show green wires of the pickups and nothing else. The place where ground wires assumedly converge is completely obscured.

Re: I need help changing pickups

what i did was i removed the old pickups and put the new ones exactly where the old ones were i know its not the same as the diagrams IMG-1457.jpgIMG-1457.jpg

Re: I need help changing pickups

the guitar was working wonderfully before i dont know why its wired the way it is but it worked i took out the pickups one by one installed the neck then the bridge in the same way but something isn't right

Re: I need help changing pickups

I'm unable to get a clear image of the connections. A photo or two of each of the pots and switch by themselves would be more useful.

You might need to be more specific about what isn't right; e.g. Bridge works but neck makes no sound, or both sound thin when in the middle position, etc. - whatever the actual problem is.

I'm guessing the noise is buzzing, but it could easily be something else. Then guessing will lead to speculation in the absence of clear images of the individual components and their connections.

Areas of concern are the ground wires from the pickups which were disconnected from the green wires (hopefully) and connected to something else (hopefully). I can't really see them. Next is the coax wires at the switch. The cap and coax to the tone pot are equally as suspect. The volume control is probably OK, but without a clear picture I can't be as sure.

Re: I need help changing pickups

I figured it out guys a wire just came loose when i put everything together everything sounds great now thanks a lot

Re: I need help changing pickups

How do they sound compared to the pickups you took out?
