I need info on this amp.

I need info on a 1960's Kent tube amplifier. It uses 2 EL84 power tubes and a12au7a, 12ax7, 6at6, and 5y3gt recitifier for the other sockets. The amp has a footswitch for the built in tremelo. The tremelo currently does not work. The speaker has been replaced with an eminence speaker, but the person has the original jensen speakers.

Are any of you guys familiar with this amp? How does this amp sound? I wonder if this would make a good project amp. I'm interested in knowing how much these amps go for.

Here are some pics of the amp.

Re: I need info on this amp.

I'm not familiar with these. The construction looks very similar to a Danelectro or Silvertone, even though it's made in Canada. Where the construction is visible, it's wood, rather than the chip board composition of the Danelectros. Just looking at it, I would expect it to sound similar, and probably be priced similar, which would be $150 - $250, maybe a little more. If the original Jensens are in good shape, they're often worth the purchase price of these amps, at least on Silvertones. You should verify those speaker models with the codes on the rims of the speakers - there will be a model #, such as C12Q, and a 6 digit #, which is the first 3 mfr #, and the last 3 are a date code. Do a search for "speaker codes" for more info, or look on Weber VST's site for that.

Except for the 6AT6, all the tubes are commonly available - the 6AT6 can be found at Antique Electronic Supply. That's a plus, since some vintage amps are hard to find replacement tubes for.

One good thing about the Danelectros and Silvertones is that the chassis were aluminum, as this one appears to be - that helped the tone. One week point was that the transformers were often underpowered - I would ask if that's the original power trans, as it looks larger to me than similar amps. I would expect a good tech to be able to fix the trem, if that's a concern.

I can't offer much more help. I'd suggest you might ask a good vintage dealer for the value of that model, which is almost legible in the 3rd pic.
