I need new strings

I need new strings for my eletric and I don't know what kind to get. Can anyone please help me with some suggestions?

I like ernie ball super slinky. I've just grown to love them. I've used D' Addraio strings and I hated them. They felt like they were cutting up my fingers.

Ernie ball all the way. My favorites are 10-46's(Hybrid Slinky) and 11-52's(Skinny/Heavy)

Are you speaking in terms that the strings on the guitar are owrn out or are you unhappy with the gauge and brand you are using?


Picking a string type or brand is much like picking the guitars that we play. My opinion may not be the same as yours, this doesn't mean that either of us are wrong.

I have had a tremendous amount of success with D'Adarrio strings. I use the XL 115's (11 thru 49) on all my electric solid bodys (I use 12's on my Archtop) and I use J17's (13 thru 56) on all my acoustics. If you can be more specific on why you need new strings we may be of more help!

Actually I'm getting a new pickup installed soon but the shop said they need to put new strings on the guitar in the process of installing the pickup. Don't ask me why they can't just put the old strings back on. But that's why.

Which Ernie Ball strings are best for metal? Like thrash metal? Or just any kind of metal in general?

I play metal/ thrash and down tuned metal with ernie ball 9's. Their in the pink package 9-42. I've never need anything thicker.

If you do get a set give the strings a few days before you decide if you like them or not. I think th ernie balls dont sound good for about 2 days or some after you put them on the guitar. I guess they need to stretch out a bit.

For metal I use the heaviest I can get. 13-56's. Or hybrids if you play leads too. Zakk Wylde uses something like 11-65s Ive heard.

Just recently I tried the best string I've had on a guitar in 20 plus years of playing. Snake Oil Strings! I'll be buying these babies in bulk from here on out.

+1 the D'Addraio felt the same way to me, so did the blue steel ones. I currently use the GHS Boomer 10's which I like alot at the moment. I have used the Ernie balls before they are nice too.

10-60's and 11-70's

i've been using ernie balls for about a year, but about a month ago i switched to
D'Addraio(XL heavy bottoms, skinny top) and i LOVE these strings, o and i play metal(iron maiden) and some thrash metal(anthrax, slayer etc).

I use a custom set of Ernie Balls.

I think that Ernie balls are just the best.
They have this bright, crunchy tone, and feel VERY nice, IMO.

My set goes from 60-09, which are kinda like the GHS Zakk set, but let me do Yngwie style, huge ass bends.

I personally HATE Ernie Balls, they sound/feel small and tinny, loose sound quick, and corrode way to fast for me. D'addario's sound great, feel great, last long enough for me, and don't corrode at all with proper string care (IE; Washing hands before playing, GHS FastFret).

10-46 in E
11-49 in D
12-52 in C
13-56 in B, or 10-56 on 7 strings, for me at least.

yep i like the ernie ball strings too. Its really up to you but if you want any kind of thick meaty metal tone i dont think the 9-42's would be very good especially if you downtune at all. I would at least go with 10-46 at the minumum.

I tried B-52s in .10s, they constantly are breaking on the 4th string, and i play a Sh**load so im gonna go back to my Elixrs. :smoker:
