I need one fret changed out

Emailed a luthier yesterday & he said he doesn't do partial refrets.

How hard could it be to take one fret out and sand it down to match the two on either side?

The fret is sort of smashed in/downward (I think this occurred when my brother knocked it over onto the metal rail of his sliding door, but that's another story).

And no, I wouldn't want to level the ones higher up to match its crappy orientation. It needs to come out.

Shirley this isn't that big a deal.

Rosewood would be easier, but i sounds like its doable. Look for another Luthier perferable one in a bigger shop.

Re: I need one fret changed out

Surely you can find a tech or luth to do one fret.

And, don't call me Shirley. :10:

Re: I need one fret changed out

talked with a local shop that could do it (if it really needs it). prices weren't bad either.

Re: I need one fret changed out

In my 40 year career, I have had to change out single frets and make them work with the rest of the frets. Sometimes it's tricky, but certainly not impossible, and should not be very expensive. Good luck.

Re: I need one fret changed out

its a pita on a maple board since youre going to disturb the finish but its doable
