hey,

i need some advice.

in a heavy rock song, it starts out soft, and then comes the heavy part, with the massive VROOOOOOOOOM...i know this sounds absurd, but its the best i can describe. I've seen players move up or down the neck to create that vrromm sound but im not sure.

um..an example...jolly's custom clip..it had the quiet part, and after that, the heavy part came with the pinch harms and vrrooom.

what?

Re: I need some tips....how do i get this massive VRROOOM sound? lol

sounds like flanger + maybe a univibe type pedal, and a pick scraping the string

Dont you mean a tremolo dive bomb and slow return ? I think you mean the slow return of a trem into a gainy amp... gives that VROOOOOM sound of a car or moto starting and riding.

Hehe sorry you where vroooming...sounded like an engine to me;)
Hmm... Maybe a vacuum?

I'm sorry, are you thinking as simple as a slide? Just run your fingers over the top strings of your axe and slide down the fretboard after hitting those strings.

Maybe telling us the time that Jolly pulls this off will help us nail exactly what you're trying to describe.

It sounds in a way tour talking about the start of fuel on the S&M by metallica...all that is is a slide going up an down the d ,g stringa...although if you mean VROOOKMMMM as in a low engine type sound then just dip yout whammy bar, play a string (E string for heaviness) then slowly start bringing up the bar for that effect?!

Check out Montrose "Bad Motor Scooter" that's some serious vrooming :D

Re: I need some tips....how do i get this massive VRROOOM sound? lol

i'm pretty sure your just talkign about either a pick scrape of a slide on a slow string with distortion, although slow lifting the whammy bar after a dive makes a vroom noise too

I also have a question about one of those vroom sounds. It's in this clip here. This clip is from voxamps.co.uk and it's the Vox Tonelab demo track.

On this track, there is a guy talking. Disregard that. Once that actual demo starts, there is a vroom sound just before the lead guitar kicks in. Anyone know how it was done?

Here's the clip: http://www.voxamps.co.uk/downloads/tonelab_demo.mp3

Sounds to me like he's using the whammy bar on the low e string to get that sound.

My favorite VROOOOOOOOOM is at the begining of Iron Man.

It reminds me of a motorcylcle.

I just use the trem bar to pull up about a quarter step, then down until it feels right.

Or, on my hard tail, I bend the string between the tuning machine and the nut, then bend the neck forward a tad (thank God for bolt on necks). It's not quite the same, but close enough.
