I need to vent about Gretschs!!

I am not sure what opinion you guys hold on this but I love Gretsch guitars and think they are very unique, but am I the only one who feels crazy for spending $2000 on a new Gretsch that's got a big Made in Korea stamp on the headstock? I know that even the Korean models are better made than some of the original models made in the US, but still...... I have heard that now since Fender owns Gretsch they will be producing some Made in USA versions, but these are supposed to be in the $5000-$6000 range for a 6120. I don't know....... I guess this just honks me off for some reason. You can get a Gretsch used for much less like any other guitar, but the fact that someone has to buy it new just gets at me. Am I the only one that feels this way? Am I missing something? The bigger picture?????

I think you're right. While I'm sure they're good guitars, they are very expensive - especially compared to other Korean made guitars. I like the looks of a Gretsch, but I think I'd probably buy used if I was going to get one.

Re: I need to vent about Gretschs!!

I agree. Nothing made in Korea will ever hold a decent resale value. Even if you play one, love it, and use it the rest of your life, it's still worth half of what you paid for it. Fred Gretsch sold out = very little integrity. What that means to you is that you can score a really nice used one by being patient and making another guy's loss your gain. I'm partial to those forest green/gold Elliot Easton models. He was the guitarist for The Cars. If I ever find one cheap, I'm jumping on one of those!

He currently plays the John Fogerty role in that farce known as CCR(Creedence Clearwater Revisited)

I hope he's not still using the Gretsches. I can't picture Fogerty playing anything but a LP custom on his Creedence stuff. Oh well, I'm sure he's not Fogerty anyway.
