I Officially Have G.A.S.

Well, the boss called today and said he'd managed to find two of these for me (The MJ30-Tobacco Burst). So I went out this afternoon around when my parents left for dinner and played the two, one of them had some finish cracking that could be repaired, but the difference in discount wasn't enough between the two so I decided to get the nicer one. Picked it up for $154.56 with my employee discount. The payments will be discretely removed from my pay over the coming weeks so as not to arouse any suspicion from the parents. Monday I'll be ordering an L.R. Baggs I-Beam system for it, hopefully have that before I leave for camp and be able to do some shows with it. The guitar sounds great. Mahogany laminate back and sides with the solid spruce top, very warm and well balanced. The neck is a little more V-shaped than I prefer but is still very comfortable to play.

So now I have a great guitar in a box underneath my bed until I can figure out some way to break this to the parents. At least this an upgrade and I'm getting rid of a beater acoustic, and this will be used for gigging. Oh no, now I'm trying to rationalize it...

Help! I'm sick! :newangel:

Re: I Officially Have G.A.S.

154 is a good price.

However thats not my type of guitar at all
I prefer cutaways. I probably am going to go for a Martin or a Takomine.

As for the parents, just play the guitar on a regular basis - I bet you they won't even notice. And after they ask "Where did that guitar come from" just say "I always had it..."

I got this Ibanez accoustic and neither my mom or dad had the slightest idea that it was a new one.

Re: I Officially Have G.A.S.

You sneaky boy!! :saeek:

Anyway the guitar looks good and now all you have to do is figure out a way of putting your other guitar under the bed and use the new one. If they are the same colour you should be alright if not get some wood stain leaflets/brochures and leave them around your room - hopefully you can then convince them that it is the same guitar but that you have just stained it a different colour!!:32:

If not you'll just have to wait until the coast is clear and take out the guitar and play it or just have to leave it under the bed gathering dust :smack: until you get to camp. Whatever you do make sure you room is tidy and don't let them look under the bed

Re: I Officially Have G.A.S.

Hahaha, my parents know exactly what I have. Something new shows up and they can smell it if it's in plain sight...

And like I said, I can justify it by getting rid of my other acoustic...

I too would prefer a cutaway, if it weren't for the fact that I rarely play above the 12th on acoustic. It's nice to have, but when I'm doing the singer/songwriter thing, I'm keeping most of it believe the 7th. It makes sense to have the extra wood there. This is the gigging/rhythm guitar so I'm set.

Re: I Officially Have G.A.S.

Why do you need to justify buying something YOU wanted with YOUR money from YOUR job?

Just a question...

Nice score man. My mom dont like me buying a whole lot of stuff either. She's trying to teach me responsibility and to make me think "is this really what I wanna spend all my money on", and I comend her for it. She's doing a great job, and for those who just constantly bash their parents saying that they'll do what they want to do cause its their life and aint nobody gonna stop 'em, reality's gonna give you a swift kick in the ass once you get out of highschool.

just for the record im not one of those people. im responsible and on my own i decided to put 3/4s of my paychecks in my saving account. im talking about the other 1/4 i set aside for buying things. i also pay my parents a small fee for transportation to and from work.

Because I've managed to score a great deal on housing, complete with board and laundry service, not to mention a sweet car arrangement (I get it most of the time after school and whatnot, and only have to fill it up every once in a while). So the justification is that I'm storing it on their property, and they have an advantage over me.

Yes, it's my money. And my parents generally grudgingly approve whatever I buy. And there have been things I've bought that they haven't been thrilled about and just said "Well...it's your money."
