And needless to say I'm pretty excited.

It's the most I've ever spent on a guitar. I'll should have pictures in a few weeks.

Beauty guitar. I prefer plain tops when there is that much real estate. I thinks flames work better on smaller guitars.

I ordered it in trans black.

I hear a changing of the pots is a must right off the bat

Dude, seriously, you just bought a classic guitar. Trans black is an amazing color on those axes. Don't want to make this thread about myself, but I just purchased a 339, and I'm telling you dude, the plaintop look on a gibby semi is just to die for. Classic, yet understated and elegant.

Is this going to be your first semi-hollow, or are SH guitars your thing?

As for the pots; I don't know. What pickups are stock in your guitar?

Re: I ordered a plain top Es 335

whatever the color....you have chosen a king among axes!

+1. Excellent choice! I love 335's. For years I thought they were big and boxy (during which time I had never actually held one). But once I finally played one, wow, so comfortable and they just sound great. Now I know why so many players, in so many genres, use 335's. And what a statement it makes to show up to a gig or jam with a 335, instead of a Strat like everyone else. Guess who's going to have the best tones?

Even the Hard Rock guys know the value of 335's !

Warning : Blueman, you ain't gonna like this music.

Music is good, but imho, the vocals is total carp !!!

Congratulations! ES-335's are my favorite electric guitars.

I'd read that Gibson had gone back to using all 500K pots like they did on all of the 50's and 60's vintage Gibsons that we all love, but after reading this post on the Gibson Forum ( http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/66526-gibson-es-335-2010-pots/ ) it appears that they are using 300K for the volume and 500K for the tone controls.

It's confusing. One guy in this thread said his tech tested the pots in his 2010 ES-335 and the volume pot was probably a 500K pot.

Some Gibson owners complain about the 57 Classic pickups sounding dull but I think it's the 300K pots Gibson uses. 500K would be my preference.

Re: I ordered a plain top Es 335

I never thought I'd be a '335 guy' until I bought one in 2008. My other guitars literally stayed in their cases for a year. All I played was the ES-335.

Instead of finding things to change on it, I just sunk into it and played it. It sounds exactly as Gibson intended it to sound. I wasn't even sure I'd get along with the 60's neck, but it was just chunky enough to feel perfect. The unplugged tone puts every other guitar to shame.......then I plug it in, and it still does.

I kind of agree, although I think Ted McCarty (designer of the ES-335) and the Gibson company of the 50's and 60's might have specified 500K pots originally since all vintage ES-335's have them.

The 57 Classics are actually very nice pickups.

So if a guy thinks his new ES-335 can't get the same tone as the vintage ES-335 that he might be comparing his new ax to, he might want to change the 300K volume pots of his new guitar to match the 500K pots of an old ES-335.

Unless you get an absolute turd, or you don't get along with the 60's neck profile, you're gonna love it. I just got one and it is the biggest sounding guitar I've ever played through. It just sounds huge.

I'm with gearjoneser, it puts the rest of my guitars (which aren't cheap crap by any means) to shame tonally and I wouldn't worry about changing out the pots before giving it a thorough run through.

Also, not sure what style of music you play, but don't be afraid to crank up the gain and play heavier stuff with it if you like that style of music. I own a Bogner Uberschall and it absolutely rips through that thing. It is the heaviest sounding guitar I own. Feedback really isn't hard to control, either.
