My main bass tone with my band is a Bad Monkey into my Ampeg because it’s aggressive, cheap, and keeps the low end without using one of those crappy dry signal mix controls. New arrangements mean I leave most of my rig at the practice space and decided to look for a backup for home noodling and riff writing…

Little did I know, JHS released a video on it yesterday and prices shot from $50 used to $600+ overnight because it can sound like a Klon and the cork sniffers with their CS Strats and R9 LPs have bottomless pockets.

FML lol

Prices for DigiTech's $59 Bad Monkey overdrive skyrocket to $650 after Josh Scott shows how indistinguishable it sounds from a Klon Centaur

I was literally about to post this. I ordered a Screamin Blues last week and I thought "maybe I'll buy another BM to mod for bass" and the cheapest one was $200.

Welp, hopefully those prices will drop soon.
 
Also now that I've seen the video, I think he's not trying to boost the cost of Bad Monkeys, that just happened to be the pedal he picked as the punchline to his little "any od can sound like any od argument"

Or it could be the setup to some fancy pedal drop he's going to do.

Brandon, if a bad monkey can sound like any pedal, that means any pedal can sound like a bad monkey. Try a TS9, or whatever.

I have a Monkey too. Honestly, think I like my BBE Green Screamer a little more.
 
Someone will have to start a "Klons are overrated and useless" thread on every music forum, and show that there are 7-8 pedals that can make that sound, and show that sound isn't used on any current popular music, and then monkeys, archers/ikons, BYOs, golden horsies and whatever else will come back to reasonable.

It really IS the bass control that makes this suitable for bass. Most TS clones with a single tone knob cut low end.
 
To be fair, I like the 'mixer out' jack on the BM better than the normal output jack.
 
Also may I add to any prospective buyers, not only do I have one with the aluminum casing, I have modded it for a brighter LED. So if anyone cares to make me an offer, get in line.
 
Interesting to get the Klon sound you can buy a Klon for 5K, BM for $650 or get a Golden Horse for $25 shipped. I think I will keep my Golden Horse.
 
I got one for my brother many years ago for like $40 lol. He’s still got it but I should have bought myself one
