I picked up a 50's Tribute LP with humbuckers Gold Top

I've lusted for a Gold Top LP for a few years mainly after seeing a John Fogerty concert on TV where he went through a nice stable of guitars but the Gold really caught my eye. Now that Gibson is making these affordable for us working stiffs I grabbed one.

I'm real happy with this guitar. Can't find any dead spots and the fret edges are smooth unlike the Vintage Mahogany I once owned.

And, I'm not hating the 498T bridge pickup. Maybe it's the amp I have now isn't as bright as some I've owned in the past, or just a good combination of wood and pickups, I'm not dying to pull them out - at least not yet.

Nice, I'm wanting one of those LP's... congrats.

Congrats!

Those are great guitars. I have one in HB. They really come alive with better pots/caps

The really appealing part about these for me, other than being a goldtop, is the lack of binding on the neck. When say that, I mean binding where it's used to terminate the fret ends; I just don't seem to get on with it.

That looks great. Congratulations!!

Thanks guys. I love that they come with top hat knobs, which are what I always put on LP's anyway - a nice touch.

Very nice mate - I haven't had the chance to pick one up myself. Is it the same thickness as a regular LP? Or thinner?

Trying to figure out what the differences are between them and the Standards/Traditionals...

Same thickness. They're dressed down - no binding, cheaper finishes, standard Gibson pickups, padded gig bag instead of hardshell case (the new gig bags are nice BTW).

Always love a nice Goldtop. Enjoy.

Man, I used to hate Goldtops with a passion, but lately I've been really, really digging them. That's a great looking one there. Congrats, dude. :beerchug:

Nice score bro!

I find it funny (strange) that the 498 is the stock pup in a 1950s tribute model. That said, i have always liked that pup for heavy rock.

Yeah, I didn't know they wound them that hot back then! That and the PCB's in the controls. They were very technologically advanced.

The black ones are not selling well; you can get a big fat discount at some stores. So, I got one and made it into The Black Wonder :D

Grover tuners, Schaller trem, Schaller PU trim, switched the mags: A2 in the 498T, A5 in the 490R. Flatwound strings gives it giant balls. Love it.
