I played a Diezel Today

Einstein model it was nice however...

Things started to go south when I cranked up the mids on the second channel so right there it lost me. Also there was plenty o' gain on tap, but even if you needed all that gain it starts to fizz out on the insane gain levels. Had a soldano right next to it, and the as nice as the diezel was it was no contest. So the only other amp i'm fiending to try is the uberchall. I've heard that leads are a bit stiff on bogners though.

Each to his own. I've owned a couple of Soldanos and the Einstein is the high gain beast I'd go after if I still sought that sound. I've also tried a Herbert and was definitely underwhelmed by that model.

amps get me all confused. A few years ago I played an Ubershall thru an Uber-cab and I was thrilled.

tried again a year or two later and didn't care for it. shrug

still liked the cabinet though. It really thumped.

Have you tried a Fuchs? Sounded beautiful to me, but kinda cheap switches and footpedal.

Re: I played a Diezel Today

The Uberschall is made to be a metal machine and not much more. It's very good at being a brutal and crushing amp. It's not the best example of the Bogner sound. The Ecstasy and Shiva is where it's at for overall tone.

I kinda like Diezels, but to me, they're not better sounding than Bogners, and the prices are too high to justify.

Bogners have a bit of compression, in a good way, and that makes them ideal for soloing.
The stiffness that some people have described is the fact that there's a lot of harmonic detail and clarity, even on highgain. That's great for players with great finger control and skill......not so good for someone who needs gain to cover up sloppiness. I have a feeling that any negative review of a Bogner is coming from someone in that category.

Uberschall is soooooooooo cool , but i would prefer a Vh4 or Herbert ,just because of the Fx loops and Midi control!
1 VH4 and an Eventide H8000 is everything i need...

I had a Bogner Ecstacy for 10 years and I loved it

Huh.

I don't do so much metal but I've seen some hard rock/progish bands use 'em with good results.

Re: I played a Diezel Today

I actually use mine more like 3 classic amps, rather than metal. That's what I like about some of those 3 or 4 channel amps.....you don't have to use them for metal.

My style is more like Black Crowes, Train, ZZ Top, Gov't Mule, Wilco, Derek Trucks, so I use the XTC like a Twin, Plexi, and fat lead tone, with boosts for each. I mainly like channel switching amps for a way to NOT lug 2 amps and deal with ground loops.

Re: I played a Diezel Today

I personally dont like Diezels.

Tried the Uber and the VH4. They were waay too compressed for me.

I remember being in the shop trying out back to back, a Uber a VH4, a VHT 100CL, and a CAE 100. The VHT won hands down. But the CAE 100 i liked sometimes more than the VHT.

For the money i would much rather get a CAE 100. Those are some killer amps!

Bogner XTC i dont have much experience with.

Also the Deliverance is worth checking out. Awesome tone. the only problem is that it doesnt have a fricken loop.

Diezels are just too industrial sounding to me. Dont have the organic qualities of the others i mentioned.

Re: I played a Diezel Today

Well I have a soldano on the way so i'm not seriously looking at things. Just more of a fascination.

Re: I played a Diezel Today

These amps all have their thing, and at this level it's just personal taste rather than any real qualitative difference.

I find soldano amps to be very playable, but more of a razor sharp, modern kind of tone.

The Herbert I tried was impressively versatile, and all the tones were top drawer, but there was something almost 'too good' about it. My friend said it sounded like a recorded, mastered guitar tone on a record rather than an amp, and though that sounds weird that's what it felt like to me too. I certainly didn't prefer it to 'one sound' amps i tried in the same session: the 65 London and Marshall HW 18w.

The only Bogner I've tried is the Uber, and it's it's own thing entirely. Pretty much a metal only amp, and a unique sounding one at that. Frightening.

I'm very intrigued about the rest of the bogners. I know of one Shiva and possibly two Ecstasys in the country, so no doubt I'll get a chance to crank one at some point. It should be interesting to see if they interest a non-channel-switcher like me.
