I polished another turd. (Works for me. Squier Affinity Strat content.)

Thinking about what to do to my $80 Aldi " Livingstone " Strat.

Surely, you would have thought that a guitar maker named Livingstone would build EXPLORERS!!!

Looks sweet. You've come to the right place. ;)

My first choice for my project was a Cool Rails in the neck, but on mine, the baseplate is coming undone. So I did the VR. It worked out great. My point being, the Cool Rails and Vintage Rails are both great starting points for "cheap" Strats. You almost can't go wrong. Then, fill in the other slots to taste.

I might replace the pots fist up. They're very no name trashy.

Awesome.

Love it for what it is. If it works, it works…

On the Squier Affinity, the MIC pots are 500k but the resistance taper is pretty vague. Neither really linear nor logarithmic. These do seem to achieve a reasonable balance with the stock single coil pickups. Somehow, a heap of crud manages to add up to considerably more than the sum of its parts.

GV. Your Livingstone guitar reminds me of a design sold in Europe under the name Behringer.

One of the most important things that everyone should understand, IMHO, is, before you do a lot of soldering . . . squirt those puppies with some Deoxit. I've sworn by that product for 40-something years. It's that good. It won't change the "feel", but it will make it sonically neutral.

Aldi " Livingstone " Strat.
As in - http://www.aldi.com/?aldiurl=true -
which is a European based Company. Germany; Beringer is German also. Maybe that's where they are sourced from.

Different pick guard BTW.
