I probably should've done this sooner...(Arrival of NAD)

As I'm sure none of you are aware, I bought a new amp. It arrived today...here are some pics:

Dat ass...

Evil tubes

So for the past 3 or 4 hours I've been hanging out over at Oinkus' pad and we've been putting the amp through it's paces. Let me just say, "Holy ****!"

We have been trying for most of the evening to get a bad sound out of it and we can't find a single sound that's even close to sub-par. The low end is thick and can be adjusted from sludgy and loose to tight and surgical. The F.A.C. control has a huge effect on the mid section of the eq. It, and the Falcon Voice control are very dynamic when used in conjunction with the Double Depth controls.

Everything on this amp is so reactive. All of the controls work together to produce the best possible sounds for your desired settings.

We have agreed that for a little over $700 shipped that there is not a better amp. The Dwarvenaut is the best amp you can get for that kind of cash.

All in all, whether you play modern metal or stoner/sludge/doom this amp can get you where you need to be. Hell, Oinkus was just playing Pink Floyd with the guitar volume rolled back and the cleans were phenomenal.

If you've ever considered buying a Dwarvenaut do it.

Oh man, words cannot describe how awesome that is. I've been GASing for one ever since you posted your first thread on this amp, and the "whatever you want" build philosophy has me really interested. (Mesa Mk2 C+ with a hot rodded Marshall power section anyone?) And the EQ controls look awesome.

Congratulations x 10,000!!

Re: I probably should've done this sooner...(Arrival of NAD)

gonna need some clips on this one, Biggie Flan. Gonna need some clean and some filth in power chord and arpeggio.

I cannot say enough good things about it. If you have questions about the controls, let me know. There is very little info about them on the web. The Ultimarshall voice is probably going to be a good base for your build. Its just a super filthy hotrodded marshall.

I gotchu, man.

I only have my phone to record on right now but I'll figure something out. Arpeggio is probably a little out of my depth.

And Jon, thanks for getting me started with my researching of these amps. I appreciate it.

(The amp can be so ****in' filthy it isn't even funny.)

Re: I probably should've done this sooner...(Arrival of NAD)

enjoy it while it lasts.

one day, Jordan will come to visit, and after he leaves, you'll go to play guitar and suddenly realize that the amp is no longer in your posession.

By then, it'll be too late.

Thanks for the help man. Definitely not saying that I'm close to one any time soon, or that one of these will be my next amp, but these are definitely on my radar now. I'm certainly not well voiced in the doom/stoner/sludgy stuff, but man, these amps look killer.

Don't let the stoner/doom/sludge thing fool you. With the vintage/modern voice control I was able to coax passable thrash tones.

It even does clean and classic rock.

All across the board this is a wonderful sounding amp. It is pretty great at bedroom volume going from clean to filthy. With the volume around 1/2 and everything else set on 1/2 it is pretty magical. The additional controls all seem to just coax more good sounds out of every different setting available. I would gladly pay twice what the cost of this amp is and feel like I had gotten a deal. We tried just about everything in every position through my Marshall 1922 2x12 then I pulled over my Ampeg Classic 1x15 and it was soooooo nice. Have to love what Niall is doing out there and I am now an official fan !

Oinkus gave me a couple of 2x12 cabs. Tell me this isn't doomy.

This thread made me wonder . . .

. . . if Hovercraft made me a custom voiced amp - just how close will he be able to get to an ELECTRIC 120 MVU tone ?

That's the good thing about Nial and Hovercraft in general. If you get in the build que, you can tell him what you want. You'll talk about the tones you're after and he goes off to the cave to build it...but it doesn't stop there! The amp he builds is not the final "here you go, man. I did my best" product. He will record clips and troubleshoot with you until it is exactly what you want.

I dunno if the el84s will get you a 1=1 fit on that buuuuut....he's building amps all the time with 6550s, kt66s, kt88s, el34s....kt120s.

****** Ryan, you just exist to spoil all of my fun.

Congrats dude, that looks like an extremely fun ride. The more you talk about them the more I'm convinced that one is in my future. Perhaps not my next amp, as I really want a Vox to complete the F/M/V trifecta, but you never know, GAS is a tricky thing. I'd love a Dwauvernaut, but I'm a big amp man at heart. Plus it would be really cool to see what Niall could do with two channels. I'm thinking something in the 50W area, though perhaps I could be convinced to do 100W, with a Hiwatt/Fender/Matamp orgy of a clean channel and a suped-up Plexi/Model T dirty channel.

****ING GAS
