I had a Washburn Wonderbar trem on my Tele back in the 80s for a while, it was good, although it lost a little tone compared to string-through-body hardtail.

Yes, it lost a bit of low mids. Very clear and articulate is the best description i can give. It's got a bit of Bill Frisell/Andy Summers vibe. I've only played it through my old Fender Musicmaster Bass amp at low volume so far. i can't wait to crank it and see how much the bottom springs affect the lead pickup.
Pickups are Lindy Fralin blues set BTW.
PS I screwed the lead pickup into the body with a foam block beneath. It'll be interesting to see how that sounds at volume with no tele bridge plate. I was going to hack the old plate but it was much easier to screw pickup to the wood and I just wanted to play the thing at that point.
