I swore I would never...

A long time ago in a music shop far away i played my very first gibson les paul, i used to say, "they are just over rated" was i ever wrong.. shortly after that i decided if i wouldn't buy an epiphone and i would just wait to have the money to buy a gibson.. i stuck true to that. i never owned an epiphone in my life.. until yesterday.. i've wanted a 3 humbucker guitar for a while just to add variety to my collection, and scrolling the local kijiji pages there it was, the epiphone g400 custom. so i decided id be in the area ill check it out.. and thats when i got the warm fuzzy "first gibson" feeling again.. i used to shun epis because.. well everyone else did.. i dont know about lower class models but this guitar is amazing, he bought it in 2006 and hasnt played it since so the hardware is in rough shape, but im changing most of it anyways. I was expecting a warped neck, terrible action, some bad buzz somewhere.. was i ever shock.. i dont think ive seen a straighter neck.. absolutely amazing.. i played it for a short few minutes and it was sold. no regrets. just thought i'd share this little narrative with you folks, overall moral; you shouldn't judge something before you really know what its like, and you never know what youll find when you take a little chance.

Re: I swore I would never...

play and enjoy, thats a good guitar, but never ever forget, a Gibson Les paul calls you from afar on the distant horizon. .

If you keep an open mind, guitars can surprise you.

Re: I swore I would never...

i just finished building one with a AAAA quilted maple top and although it doesnt look quite as nice as a real gibson (it was my first build, lots went wrong haha) it has the tone. I plan on owning a real one someday... *sigh* someday.. but for now i have this totally rockin sg !!

Re: I swore I would never...

If it feels good, and sounds good, it is good.

I have a $150 Kaman GTX36 Les Paul, and a minty 1973 Tobacco Standard. Don't get me wrong...the 73 is awesome. But for 150 bones...and a ToneZone, that Kaman can rock it's @$$ off.

Enjoy!

Re: I swore I would never...

Is yours the regular antique ivory Custom, or the white one with a maestro? I have the maestro one and love it.

Re: I swore I would never...

Are you going to change PU's, or do the stock ones sound okay? If you're changing them, what are you thinking of putting in?

Re: I swore I would never...

I.ve got one and it's a killer guitar.

A nd after I've changed the crappy hardware and p'ups, it also sounds like a dream.

Being a three p'up guitar, I'll going with the P-90/P-90/HB config, so once I'll finish it I'll keep you posted.

HTH,

Re: I swore I would never...

I'm waiting, give the stock pups a chance. But I have a set of stew Mac parson street pickups at home I'll try first before anything. And probably a p90 in the middle.
