I want my guitar to shred

Reckless Abandon

New member
I got a JB in and it is sterile and lacks the thickness I want also a little trebley. I ordered a CC and it lacked edge. The forum and the guy I talked to at duncan suggested a Custom. Will this pup give me the tone I want in a floyd mahogany guitar? My fav. pup is an A2 pro. I want something more "shreddy" in this guitar. Will the custom work? I have a JCM 800

Re: I want my guitar to shred

What level of overdrive are you getting from than JCM800.... i know the un-modded ones are quite weak,

I'm thinking perhaps a pedal in front of the amp is need to beef it up... but if you can already achieve that kind of beer then you're sorted on that front.

Other than that, i don't see why the JB can't get you a thick tone.

Re: I want my guitar to shred

It is modded. Most of the lack of thickness is in leads. It is also harder to do oinch harmonics. I do them easily with the a2 pro.

Re: I want my guitar to shred

the jb is usually pretty good with harmonics, how do to have it set?

Re: I want my guitar to shred

What about the full shred or screamin demon? They have excellent definition for shredding and mahogany would cut the brightness so the pup isn't overly bright. Give one a shot, you can always return it:)

well spoken metalman, :bigthumb: the above pickups were made for shred tone. the full shred will be alittle more basey than the demon. both have great distortion the demon will be brighter and realy accent the harmonics better in my opinion since the darker the pickups the less pronounced the harmonics tend to be. Ive had both in my floye rose trem strat but in the end I went with demon. demon is not however the best for drop d death metal thrash tone its more for hard rock, blues, and some metal. its realy designed to accent the distortion clip on your speakers and if you use alot of gain with that floyde trem you could get some wicked screams-hence the name screamon demon. less bright go for full shredd. cheers :beerchug:

But both of those would be brighter than the JB right? I would just like to do some squeals with the bar and stuff like that. My custom comes soon so I will try that since it will be here. Will it do stuff like that? Is my guitar just not set up right? ie. string need to be raised?

I've always found the JB to have a ton of harmonics...
It must be my guitar set up. I can do pinch harmonics much easier on my LP copy with A2 pros. I am changing the speaker, that may help with the thinness and I will try the Custom. Maybe I will be happy soon
