So I just ordered an A4, a UOA5 and an A8 from addictionfx, and I would like to take the opportunity to finally try to make a few hybrid pickups that I have always wanted to try but was never brave enough.
So my plan is to make a Seth Lover/Jazz and a Brobucker/Custom. Now these are not very common choices but they're what I have, and they're also my favorite two pickups for their respective positions, so I can't see why not.
First question, any reason to believe that this any of these pickups would not work well for a hybrid or if there is anything preventing me from combining them.
My second question is which magnets do you think would sound best in each.
Guitar is a '59 reissue Les Paul that currently has a Custom 5 in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck. I recently swapped them with the BB/Seth set that was in there for years. I like that the Jazz is brighter than the Seth but it is a bit too much. I *really* like the clarity and jingle that you can get with my Blues Jr's power tubes just start to break up. That and the lead tone with the tone rolled back just a bit does a *damn* good Slash tone.
I am surprised and very pleased to say that I absolutely love the C5 in the bridge. I tried one years ago and I remember it sounding so thin and hollow, but clearly either I was wrong or there was something wrong with my setup because it is the exact opposite of that. I just love this pickup, the low end is so aggressive and tight, keep in mind I'm playing mostly blues rock into a blues Jr. with a
TS-808, so when I say tight I mean it in the context of that music. I also just really like hot bridge pickups. I used to be such a PAF snob but I realize that I was so ignorant back them because I love the Custom 5 absolutely gut punches the power tubes and it sounds ****ing awesome.
Anyway hopefully that should give you some idea of what I'm going for visa vis-a-vis the magnets.
Answers and input are very much appreciated
