I wish I had the money..

Re: I wish I had the money..

Sell your crappy guitars and use the money to take real lessons

Not just do I not have the money now, but even if I sell all of "low end" guitars, which is all of them, it wouldn't last me long with lessons. As good as they are, $25-30 per lesson 3 times a week just isn't practical to me. I mean in 10 weeks I'd be out at least $750! Even if online lessons are slower, at $10-20 a month, I'll take it.

Not really its all in knowing what you got and where to move it.

And he for sure isnt picking and choosing his purchases based on their profitability. On the lot of guitars he has now he would be lucky to break even on all but 1.

You couldn't sell an Epi Studio in good condition surf green for $150? From what I can find, I can take the Jazz/JB and sell them for $100, and I've seen a few Epi stock pups in the Good Karma thread to replace them. And I think I could easily make a profit with the ESP LTD H-400 in like new condition that I'm getting for $225. Again, take the 59'/JB and sell for $100 then sell the guitar with some other pups. I think I could fetch more than $125 for a set neck mahogany body guitar???

I still work with my father.. Exterior/Interior design and construction. In the near future I'll either start working for my father's customers myself like my brother did, or apply for a job at one of the local stores.

Re: I wish I had the money..

I understand the "shrine in the closet" allure of owning a real classic amp but when I finally went from horrific Digitech multifx pedal (this was the modelling dark ages) to a Marshall as a teenager, I think I literally wheeled it out twice in 5 years. It made a hot background for my myspace selfies but my ears hurt after playing it for 15 seconds in my 50 sq ft bedroom.

Becoming a teenage virtuoso on junk gear is the best time in your guitarist life IMO. If you're that tight on cash then let it wait. That's not a once in a lifetime investment either, it's just a CBS.

Be financially wise now instead of flipping gear til you're broke then when you're old and crusty like me (mid 20s) you can have a room full of them.

Love it!

Mostly this was just one of those things I think I need. I love my Roland Cube and as of now couldn't ask for more!

Yeah that guitar is not mahogany, they call it mahogany but its not mahogany none of them at that price point are. Its a trade name its real name is toona.

I get it dude, you like it when people reaffirm what you want to hear thats why you get a big chubby when dominus agrees with you and you get bent out of shape when i tell you its not the way I would go.

But if you want a dose of reality throw those guitars up on craigslist and see what sort of offers you get. I bet you get a dozen offers of trades for guitar hero controllers, eight balls of weed, key hole saws and other assorted items but little cash. It will at least test the water for how much money people are willing to spend. You bought those guitars at pretty much their current used value which is ok unless you want to make a profit. You might make some parting them out but thats also relying on others to give you pickups.

At the end of the day i'm just offering one opinion on how you could go about it. If you choose to blow your money redecorating your scalp with a soldering iron and pixie sticks I wouldnt care in the slightest.

If quantity over quality is what blows your skirt up have at it.

Re: I wish I had the money..

Alright, I understand all my guitars are trash. I'm already looking around for offers.

Man.. I wonder.. Because the Roland Cube is under $500 and SS, should I also sell/give it away?

Alright, but reality I am thinking about just paying the 15% restocking fee and not buying that esp. Then I'll give my Washburn to my brother as he's kinda looking into starting! Then I'll only have one piece of trash! :D

Don't be too quick to decide that your stuff is trash. You're young, you have limited finances, and you have all the time in the world. Get GOOD with what you have and set goals. Take some time to save up while you hone your skills and you'll probably even find that the features you thought you wanted in a nicer guitar will change along with your talents.

Remember, not every guitar has to be an investment for making money... it's perfectly okay to have a guitar that's worth it to YOU, regardless of the resale value.

Re: I wish I had the money..

My first gigging guitar was a Kent SG that I paid $99 for. I had at least a half dozen gigs under my belt before I had a decent guitar.

Re: I wish I had the money..

it sounds like you have plenty of money to blow on stuff you think is not great

try saving your money and buying something good

then stop buying crap and get better on that good instrument

Craigslist sucks. It's where the dregs of humanity hang out. He'd get decent prices on eBay. How do I know? I make a decent living flipping gear. I can also figure out which eBayers spend time on CL, and I block them as soon as I get a question from them.

Re: I wish I had the money..

So far the one with the unplayable warped neck is the only trash guitar.
But it is so nice looking

Keep it for wall art till you can afford a baked maple stainless steel fretted Warmoth replacement.

Play the ones you got
If you want the ESP then get it

But you are gonna have to curb your gas at some point

And just play.

Talk your brother into playing bass or drums

Lil sis too

Y'all jam. This is where you learn to play

Each week it will get better

Yep we are all aware of what you do, I was waiting for you to chime in. Now tell him about this shangri la called ebay. It supports much better "vendors" than it does individuals. But hey press on!

Not going to get into a measuring contest, but for the first 9 years I was selling full time on eBay I was an individual. Now I have a girl that works for me part time.

But please, let's talk more about how having better gear makes you a better player, because those with extraordinary talent couldn't make it with crap gear..

Re: I wish I had the money..

Hey guys, you both have valid points, but the way this conversation is going doesn't feel very helpful for the OP. Perhaps you could continue via PM?

I never said they were trash... what im getting at is that it IF you want nicer gear then it deosnt take too many 250 dollar guitars until you've paid for a nice one.

If you are happy as a clam with the low end stuff I say more power to you! i really do. I wish I could be happy with a 200 dollar guitar. (I havent found one yet that didnt give me the heebie jeebies after a couple of days and wound up being sent packing.

Heres my thing... it seems like you want better gear. If thats true you want to not grab all the low hanging fruit you can but give it a minute so you can try to reach some of whats higher up.

Gear flipping is fine and all but unless you deal in volume its hard to make it pan out

You dont want to get into a measuring contest yet you post about it? Umm ok dude.

But please tell me where I said he needed better gear.... The dude wants better gear.. He WONT get it by buying every 200 dollar guitar that sparks a twinkle in his eye.

This is my point

Hes not buying in low in volume then reselling like you are. He doesnt have the money for the sort of overhead that sort of operation requires.
