Ibanez AR-30 Artist Japanese Ash Guitar, Pickup suggestions?

I have an 1983 Ibanez AR-30 Artist. I currently have an older Super Distortion for the bridge whick makes it look more like stock. Just wondering if this is a good choice or should I look elsewhere. I haven't wired it up yet to try it. Just curious if any of you have had experience with thick ash guitars wiith Super D's.

The guitar is made of Japanese Ash and not mahogany like most old Artists.

Plus, it has lots of braided wire left. Should I heat shrink it as to not cause any shorts?

No suggestions? I had another ar-30 with a JB in it. Sounded great but I was wanting make it look more factgory with cream HB's.
