Ibanez Identification

This came in a Prestige case. 22 frets so I looked at S series but they seem to have an output jack on the face of the guitar. Powersound looks similar but this has no locking nut. GAX60? Hodgepodge of pieces? No serial number anywhere, neck plate was on upside down.

Thanks in advance,

Re: Ibanez Identification

I could be wrong, but I think that's a Washburn body.
Best thing about the deal is the hard case.

Re: Ibanez Identification

This looks to be an RG shape (more thickness than S shape), with that control configuration.

The 2-post vibrato bridge route throws me, though - that would point to the old RT series, but as far as I know, those had pickguards, and this doesn't seem to have pickguard screw holes.

Without more info, the Prestige case may be the most valuable part of this deal :D

I almost want to say the same thing. That body has an odd shape to it and it doesn't appear to be anything I recognize.
The only other distinguishable feature is the 22frets neck itself, which was used on their lower end models or their Sabre and Proline series, but most of those had locking nuts, however they did have the square neck heel up until 1994, but the other lower end models also had a 22 fret neck well past those years.
Does the neck heel have any markings? What about the neck pocket? Usually Ibanez put a sticker on the rear of the headstock with the model name and serial number on the guitars that had a blank neck plate or a logo only plate, which was most of their models.
The RS and EX series were made around then, but each of those respectively had a different body, and a different headstock logo...
Definitely an odd one, going off the pictures provided...

Re: Ibanez Identification

Nothing in the neck pocket. Nothing other than Ibanez on the neck. GSA 60 seems closest to me.

Re: Ibanez Identification

I understand what you mean about the lack of markings, wasn't sure if you tore it down yet. Your body is shaped different than that GSA60. Maybe they changed them ever so slightly over the years??

Try doing an image search and try to match up the rear control cavity of yours with known Ibanez models. I'll try to do the same after I eat dinner to see if I can come up with anything conclusive. You can also try looking through the old catalogs. Someone online has almost every year posted to browse through.

Re: Ibanez Identification

I've got two very old DiMarzio SDS-1 pups and an old DiMarzio PAF I could put in it. They'd be worth far more than it but with a tuning key upgrade it might be a solid player.

Re: Ibanez Identification

Old late 80's Roadstar from Korea. RG 140 something.

NOT a Roadstar. Those were early 80's.
RG's didn't happen until Ibanez released the JEM.

The cutaways are just not right for an RG, I'm telling you. And Ibanez didn't put foam in the pickup routs. Even the control cavity doesn't look like an Ibanez.

Re: Ibanez Identification

I agree with Vasshu, it's an old RG140 (good eye by the way!), it seems like a predecessor of the SA-series!
Have fun with it mxaniac! By the way what are your plans with it? (what pickups? what bridge? etc...)

Well I thought the ancient DiMarzio pups I had might be better for a higher valued project so I'm putting some EMGs in it. I happen to like EMGs, coupled with a 6L6 tube amp they can make some magical clean chimey sounds. They can also push a little tube amp into distortion and not get muddy. 89 is what I'm putting in the bridge.

I picked up a TZ30 bridge but the spacing is wrong. I think the 2 posts are 52.5 spacing. Not sure what will fit. I seem to have a habit of buying bridges and tuners that don't fit what I'm doing.
