weren't you looking for a K7? or am i mistaken...anyway, there is a blue K7 at the sam ash in huntington NY if you wanted one...the price has been reduced like 3 times on it from what the card says...it looked clean but i honestly only passed by it...the price was in the $1K range i think...not sure like i said, just passed by.

i got an rg-2570 last summer. That's about the best RG without counting the vai signature guitar. I'm pretty satisfied, with it. I like the thin neck. The prestige necks are awesome. The 1527 seems to have a lot of the main features of the 2570. Just beware of the pickups, i haven't tried those out. I also prefer to have a mid- single pickup, which i do in the 2570, but the 1527, doesn't have it. But tha'ts just preference.

I like the K7s as they're simple and straitforward (plus, I like the U shaped whammy bar). The problem is the big old "K7" chisled into the fretboard.....
Besides, I'm paying around $1050USD for the RG1527, so unless that K7 is selling for under $1050 I'd still end up paying more (plus the shipping/taxes).

yeah, you cant go wrong on ibanez necks if you like the wizard thickness and raw wood feel. They're basswood, i believe, which is darker sounding than mahogany and alder.
The only downside on that axe IMO would be that most pickups are voiced for alder strats or mahogany les pauls, so you'd have to choose wisely to get the sound you're looking for.

I don't know if you noticed, but all DiMarzio 7s have ceramic magnets. They claim it's because the low notes sound clearer this way, but I've wondered if it's so they only have to buy ceramic magnets. The EMG 707 is pretty f*ckin' articulate, and it's A5.
I attribute this to the fact that the most prominent Ibanez players (Vai & Satch) use DiMarzios. When I bought my RG570, I picked up an Air Norton/Evo set. Needless to say, they're long gone, and the Invader/JB/Distortion/EMG 85 were all welcome replacementsscreamingdaisy said:

I was thinking that as I typed it.
Despite the fact that I like EMGs I was leaning away from them as most people seem to say they don't sound good in basswood.....but then again I saw a video a few weeks ago and Munky had a 707 in his K7.....
Actually, never mind. I just checked the Ibanez site and the K7s are mahogany.....

You know the 707 is basically an 85 & they DO in fact make an 81-7, right?

I've used the 85 & 81 in basswood, and am quite happy with how they sound. I would recommend that for basswood, you use a pair of 81s or at least use the 81 in the neck, and the 707 in the bridge. In my ESP (basswood, maple neck, rosewood board, floyd) the 85 was way too bassy in the neck. It kills in the bridge of my Ibanez R570, though.

Hmmm.....what were the leads like? In mahogany I liked the 85 for leads, but it had way to much bass to get a usable clean tone out of....and I plan on using this as an extended range lead guitar......so I don't need the clean tone like I do with the Les Paul.

Having said that, I still prefer the 81 in the neck. I love it for soloing.
The top three strings were really good, really fat and smooth. The bass strings sounded good, but only as long as they weren't palm muted. Muting made them get kinda farty.screamingdaisy said:

If you want leads for that axe, honestly, stick with DiMarzio's. An Evo set would sound godly, IMO.

Well I have one in the neck personally, and I played the JEM (alder) with them in both positions for an hour or two before decided on whether or not to buy it...And I found that it did infact get pretty good rythm tones. Very articulate, good presence, more top end than bottom end, but in mohogany, it should fix that if needed.

Vai thing. The Evo is honestly one of the only high output pickups I've really decided I don't like.

Yeah...If you're going for 100% rythm, I don't think the Evo is really that great. A ToneZone or a Steve's Special would be killer, though.
