Ibanez SR300FM

Went to check out some basses last weekend. I came across this...

Specs (from MF site):
SR4 neck
3-piece maple neck
Agathis body with flamed maple top
24 medium frets
Rosewood Fingerboard
B100 bridge
IBZ DXP neck pickup
IBZ DXJ bridge pickup
Pearl dot inlay
EQB-IIC 2-band EQ

This bass was super comfortable and easy to play. I think it would fit well for what I want; which is basically a bass to record with. It's affordable too at $350.

My only concern is that I've thought about staying away from agathis. I'm pretty sure that my Cort is made of agathis as well as my Sebring bass. For some reason this bass spoke to me. Maybe it has something to do with the pups? Maybe the maple top?

Anyone have any experience with these lower end Ibanez basses? Also, should I be concern with the wood being agathis?

Re: Ibanez SR300FM

If you dig it, who cares what it's made of?

Knowing the nature of the woods and knowing the scenario the isntrument is going to be played in can go a long way to making the judgement as to whether it's a good fit for the mix and how it is likely to sound in it.

Re: Ibanez SR300FM

I tried out the 5-string version (SR305) of that bass (SR300) before I bought the one I settled on (SR405). The 305 I played felt and sounded really good, and I liked the pickups and the variety of tones from the electronics. In the end I chose the 405 for the clear, shiny Light Amber finish and passive humbucker pickups. Of the few different Ibanez basses I tried, I found the setup, playability, and feel was consistently awesome from the factory.
