Ibanez V7 V8 how good are they???

I have a Ibanez RG1570 with V7 and V8 pups. I have ordered a Dimarzio Fred (BRIDGE) and Dimarzio PAF Pro (NECK). I am hoping there will be a noticeable difference in the sound, hopefully for the better! Any body got any thoughts, or have had a similar expeience with this set up? Should i have bought a Seymour Distortion and Seymour Jazz instead? I ordered Dimarzio's because Satriani and Vai use them, plus all my other guitars have Seymours on them and i fancied a change!

it will be an improvement for the better. the neck will sound more natural and the bridge will be smoother.

to my ears the ibanez V's are all bark and no bite so to speak.. they are so damn trebbly it insults my ears.

IMO it depends on the guitar. I like the Vs in my SC620, but that's a thicker necked, mahogany bodied guitar. Lot's of people complain about them, though, and I have no idea how they'd sound in basswood.

I DO know that the PAF Pro is very nice in the neck (as is a 59, though I never had a Jazz). I never had a FRED or a Duncan distortion, but a JB sounds great in the bridge of my basswood Radius.

I found the V8 a bit treble-y aswell, its not like it lacked output, just lacked punch. The V7 i use a bit, it sounds quite warm through my setup whcih i quite like, it probably isnt an outstanding pickup, but as i don't use it much i havent got round to replacing it yet.

I wish I never took the stock pickups out of my Ibanez. I have an RG570 with v7,s1 and v8. The overall tone is better with Evolutions, though I can never get goot Pos. 2,3,4 sounds with any repalcements

my rg 550 got the V1/S1/V2 Combo, and they're ****. I changed the Bridge to a JB and it's much better (more clarity etc...)...

not sure what stock pickups my RG had it's a 91... but anyways i also did the JB/jazz and it's completely differen't in a good way then the stock pickups lifeless noise they put out

A general rule of thumb should be as soon as you buy an Ibanez, change the pickups. I'm sorry, but I've never played a stock Ibanez that I liked the sound out of. I like the feel of non-wizard Ibanez's, but their pickups are crap.

Biggest problem I've encountered with Ibanez Pickups are their feedback. They scream uncontrolably

Re: Ibanez V7 V8 how good are they???

i own the 1550 & i disown the stock humbuckers since day 1... it now sports a Duncan Distortion (N) + Screamin' Demon (B).

although Vai is one of my heroes, i can't get along with the Breeds, Evos, etc... still prefer Duncans.

Re: Ibanez V7 V8 how good are they???

Sorry, but there's no way an attitude of "all Ibanez pups suck" holds water. There is such a range between the crap Powersounds, to the mid-level V series, to the very good QMs and DiMarzio made IBZUSAs to the true branded DiMarzios. If someone prefers a JB or whatever to a stock QM or IBZUSA, that's fine. My main guitar had 2 of the 3 stock pups replaced, too. But that's a taste call; many of the stock pups are fine - I like the IBZUSAs in my backup axe a lot.

Re: Ibanez V7 V8 how good are they???

The V8 and V2 i didnt like, but i put the V1 and V7 in the bridge and i like them alot. I have 4 guitars with a V7 in the bridge, one with the V1 and i got a set of the INF pickups also. The INF are probobly the best, they have a good dirty sound and clean up very well.

I think the V8 and the V2 left a bad taste in alot of people and they just asume all ibanez pups are bad.

Hey Bower, how's that V7 in the bridge?

I have a V7 neck on my RG1550 and I think it would be cool on the bridge, but I haven't bothered to try... it has a decent low end.
