Hiya all!

I know I will build my coolection of guitars and amps slowly but surely..
At this point , I'm thinking having "one of everything" in terms of guitars, and the best I can afford ATM in amps and effects.

I'm thinking of having one of each of the classical guitar designs in the future
(one strat, one LP, one SG, one tele..) and maybe a few more amps. Along with that goal, I'd like to get as many "exotic", "pointy", "so 80s" and other "not for vintage persons" guitars as possible.

I'm looking for some pointers and opinions here..
What kind of stuff would you like to have? What is your ideal collection?
If you are a collector, what's yer goal?

Would you advice me to collect more amps as well?
Does someone see NO point in collecting stuff?
Are there GOOD reasons for getting 2 of the same classic design?
(I actually know there are, just list 'em)
Should I go for for my fave shape, and just have different electronics and hardware on each?

Eventually my goal is to cover as much tonal range as possible, and have a neat collection of guitars for the sake of having a neat collection of guitars. :laugh2:

Some would argue that your collection should consist of items that have good re-sale value, i.e.- "collectability"; such as vintage pieces, or "ace-in-the-hole" items which you are sure to make money with. I feel that one should get gear that suits their needs, and not be so hell-bent on aquiring pieces which may be considered trendy.

Yes, I'm after the enjoyment of playing different stuff myself, not the enjoyment of stockpiling expencive stuff.. A good point.

Most collectors seem to home in on one or two models, or one specific brand. BUt hey, if ya' got the cash and can afford it, hoard as many different types as possible! Just don't forget, ya' gotta play all of them every so often,and give them all a little TLC, otherwise , they will get mad at you, and lose their mojo! Plus they get lonely in their cases!

I think I have my ideal collection but if we're talking what is left that I would love to have but would never spend my money on, well...

I'd love to have a Mesa Dual Recto. I have a single but a Dual would be cool just for the power. I'd love a Line6 HD 147 but as I don't have and won't have $1000 for a used one I probably won't be buying one because there's no way I'd use it for my main amp but it would be fun to play with. I would also love another American BC Rich Bich archtop with stop tail preferably. I'd also like an American BC Rich Wave or two. They're a really cool shape a nice take on the standard strat in my eyes. I think that's about it. I've owned everything else and for me nothing plays like American Riches. Never had a PRS but they don't really impress me.

Here's what I've got for guitars and amps...

Guitars:

Gibson Les Paul Standard
Fender Standard Stratocaster
Fender Standard Telecaster
Gibson ES-333
Guild Acoustic

Amps:

Vox AC-30
Fender Super Reverb
Mesa/Boogie DC-5 head w/ Mesa 4x12 Celestion Vintage 30 cab

The only guitars I desperately want to add to my collection are a 12-string Ric, a Taylor acoustic and a classical guitar (which I'm currently building). I'd like to get a Gibson Explorer someday if no other reason because they look so f'ing cool, but tone and feel are paramount.

For amps, I'd like to add a Marshall Plexi to my collection (perhaps as a replacement for the Mesa head).

And then there are pedals, pedals, pedals...

I am in the camp that I use what I have, and nothing is superfluous or redundant- they are tools to me, and I am kind of quirky in what I want from a guitar (its my job), so if you are really into collecting- buy stuff you can sell for a profit- that is what the smart collectors do.

Good point, Mincer.. I thnk I couldn't buy a geetat just for the value of it.. For me the fun is in the owning + playing combined.. not just the owning..
