Well, it's never too early to find an idea that we all like or miss. So - what do you really want? need?
Most of my favorite Strat players - Blackmore, Clapton, Buddy Guy, Gilmour, Beck had switched to noiseless pickups. Their tone didn't suffer from it IMO. So that's my GAS:
1. A higher output Stack with A2 magnets. Something that would add raunchiness and attitude to the bridge and will split and "quack" well. That's my dream Strat pickup. Should work well as a set or in any position.
2. A higher output active Livewire Classic (SD have a few great breakthroughs there - I'm all for using it). The vintage stagger design with higher output, dual pin configuration like on the Blackouts but when boosted still with a little less output... Should work in a set with other actives, bridge for the Classics or as a set.
3. A take on the Brian May pickups... I'd take it any day.
4. A perfect middle pickup - I like this idea (I'm with ya Sanford)... something that would quack like crazy in the notch positions. Problem is, of course, that you'll need to order it with the right wounding and polarity for the rest of your pickups and that might cause a big mess here.
Edit:
And I've done it while using the word vintage only once... it can be done when you talk about Strat pickups...
