Ideas for a travel guitar?

Hey everyone, I travel 5 days a week most of the time and the rest I travel 12 out of 14 days. I need to practice more but don't want to risk damaging my nice guitars. I only drive for travel, no flying, and it's a single cab truck. Do you have any ideas for a guitar I can take around with me? Either acoustic or electric is fine.

Re: Ideas for a travel guitar?

Lots of options in both acoustic and electric. I have a Martin Backpacker, which some folks will tell you doesn't deserve to be called a guitar. They do make excellent cricket bats however! What's your budget? They range from under $100 to a couple of grand.
I would advise,if it's gonna live in the truck, against an acoustic. Mainly due to weather conditions, stability and durability.
There are plenty of things like Hofner Shorty's that have been around for years and won't break the bank (I think they sell new for around $200US)
Theres also the Chiquita I think they're around 600 bucks. One of those and a decent headphone amp should do the job.
Do a Google search, theres heaps of stuff available.

And,just to keep Crusty Philtrum happy,I'll throw in the infamous Hoyer Foldaxe!!!!

Cheers,PJ

I have a Martin Backbacker and a Squire Mini. The Martin has high action, so chords only. The mini plays well (find a good one) is short-scale, so can't to high solo practice, but with a nice headphone or small amp, it's satisfying for a lot of other stuff. Actually fits in an overhead bin on an airplane.

Do hou stay in hotels? Also, which places do you travel to? Changes in climate & humidity can necessitate setting up the guitar each time you relocate.

$60 eBay fake Strat.

Detach the neck for easy packing; leave the strings on. Tune up and play through a $30 phone interface, appropriate app and earbuds.

I got a Hofner Shorty recently for some travels. Dead pleased with it. Highly recommend as it packs up small, but also has a 24.75" neck.

I travel for a living too. I ended up getting a Strobel Classic. It fits in a laptop case and plays like a full scale guitar. The neck comes off, and it's kind of looks like the headless, small Stienberger body like guitar.

You could get a G-Sharp guitar, which are short-scale guitars made specifically for the traveling guitarist.

There's also the Voyage Air guitars, which are full-scale guitars that have necks that fold down, making them much easier to carry. They make both acoustics and electrics.

I have a Hofner Shorty too. It went with me and a Behringer V-Amp when I was deployed to Afghanistan! Rumours of me being deployed as a secret weapon of noise destruction were over exaggerated!

I have a modest budget of 200, due to many other projects (rebuilding 30 year old guitar, building guns, etc..) I stay in hotels when traveling. Mainly travel to west Texas and south Texas for my current job but my new job starting soon will have me across the country, mainly the western and southern states with some north east. No I'm not a trucker but for my line of work you have to constantly keep moving.
