I have an aftermarket Maestro style tremolo on my SG.. The chrome is getting very dull and cloudy.. Was wondering if you guys had any recommendations on anything that might help me clean it up to a shiny finish again..

I'd be looking under the sink and seeing if you have any products for cleaning metals. There are a few ones that might help.

I've never had a Maestro, but I regularly use WD40 on stopbars, tuner keys, and pickup covers. Always worked well for me.

Used some Meguires Scratch X and turtle wax polishing compound on a 65 SG that was just awful , now it is bright and shiny like new. Just take your time and be thorough it's not a race.

Thanks for the responses guys. My step mom gave me some super old metal polish, and if anything that made it worse a while back. Lol .. so hopefully whatever I go with will made it better.. just don't want to potentially ruin the metal and shine..

It is probably nickel plated, not chrome, so use caution. It's not as durable, so using AJAX or something like that will destroy it.

Dunlop makes a fret polishing cloth that they include in there Guitar Maintenance Kits, and that can be used for cleaning other metal parts. It is abrasive, so use lightly.

You can try a light polish, like the Virtuoso Guitar Polish. You can also try the more abrasive Virtuoso Guitar Cleaner.

You might find some other products at a Home Depot or Lowe's--like a Blitz cloth, a product treated with a metal polish for cleaning fine jewelry.

And you may just have to accept the wear as part of the relic-ing process. :)

I am thinking Boogie Bill is right. It may be a nickel finish on the cover. If. It is nickel it will never be as bright as chrome. That being said, it can be made to look much better with a buffer and some automotive polishing compound.
