ideas/help for buying new pickups

hi guys :)

I'm still pretty new when it comes to pickups and buying them separately.
I have a bass that I want to fit new pickups on but getting the correct pickups (both in tone and size) is nearly impossible for me.

what's an easy way to quickly understand if the pickups will fit your bass?

thanks :D

Well you can find measurements for most pickups easily but what pickups are you replacing? Can you post a pic of it?

Re: ideas/help for buying new pickups

The pickup closer to the bridge is in the style of a Fender Jazz Bass. The two piece pickup further from the bridge is in the style of a Fender Precision Bass. These trade marked names are commonly abbreviated to Jazz and Precision or, even, J and P. Hence, the popular name for your pickup pairing is PJ.

Edgecrusher has already mentioned measurements. For you, the most critical measurement will be the length of the bridge position "J" style pickup. These come in two lengths.

yeah but how do measure them quickly? its kinda awkward to go to a store and check the size of every pickup I wanna try

Re: ideas/help for buying new pickups

measure the pickups in your bass, then we can help. be very accurate since many pups are close in size but not exact

Re: ideas/help for buying new pickups

the j pickup is (3.7 x 0.7)inches/ (9.3 x 1.8) cm
the p pickups are (2.4 x 1.1)inches/ (5.7 x 2.7) cm each
