Identifying old Seymour Duncan Strat pickups

It's easy to identify the newer Seymour Duncan Strat pickups - they all have a neat little label on the base with the model number. But is it possible to identify an older pickup that doesn't have a sticker?

I assume that the numbers that are stamped on the base show year of manufacture? So these would be 1986 pickups?

I haven't seen stamps with numbers below 85, so I'm assuming that they started the date stamps around 1986?

But how about identifying the model number? Back in the 80s Duncan didn't make much apart from the SSL-1 (Vintage) & APS-1 (Alnico II), but is there any way of telling which is which visually? Any little clues I may have missed? The output of both types of pickup is similar, so resistance readings won't help.

Some of the (pre date stamped) 1980s SD pickups seem to have stickers that say 1R - does anyone know what this means?

Any ideas? All information gratefully accepted.

Based on the copper wire insulation colour, SSL-1.
