just wondering, if someone buys a 2005 Gibson SG Standard now, will the value appreciate later? i mean like for sure? if the guitar is kept in well condition.
i'm a total newbie in guitar prices.
thank you in advance.

it'd need a very very long time if it ever did man, think about prices of 80's guitars atm :)

well, the only reason vintage guitar prices are so crazy is because there were a small amount of those guitars made and they were of superior quality to anything that is made now and because they have grown into legendary instruments of almost mystical status(i.e 59 les paul), it has to have something VERY diserable about it to become collectible. So an answer would be no, it would probably be a little bit under new sale price...

are we talking in terms of 20 years?

if you want something purely to invest in, buy a 50's les paul junior, they are the cheapest priced of the 50's les pauls and will go up in value steadily, but they are still very very pricey now. I'm not sure if you were looking for something that would increase in value or just wandering if a regular guitar will be worth more money in the future

i'm kinda on a budget. and i want a player which maybe i can sell later without losing a whole lot of money.

No. Unless Gibson prices suddenly skyrocket and new SGs become much more expensive. Or if they stop doing them altogether. The way things are going now, no way. And why should it?

But on the other hand, even new Gibsons are among the best guitars to retain their value. Even if you won't get your own back, you'll probably get something. And someone's bound to buy it off you.

I recommend you go for the Thomann one, and try it for the 30 days.
