who would it be? and what would the specs be?

i'd have Zion make me a guitar. specifically the Bent T model. here are what the specs would be...

mahogany body
AAAAAAquilted maple top
HSS pickup configuration
Custom pickups made
ebony fretboard
wilkinson vs-100 bridge
gold hardware
deep blue or emerald green or a dark purple or natural stain over top
natural mahogany back
sperzel tuners
22 frets
medium/jumbo sized frets
medium action(not low, not high. high enough to get good bends in)
9-46 gauge strings( dont know what company, either EB or DR)
medium thick back neck shape(a little thicker than teh san dimas back shape)
mother of pearl block inlays with abalone crosses inside

now if i could have that guitar, i would stop looking like this:

:32:

and more like this:

:arms:

here's a picture of what it looks like...

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

Well, Schecter did a good enough Job on my Omen 6 so...

006 body style, mahogany neck through, with a flame maple top, with a blue "midnightburst" like on an SG Supreme

Thin, wide mahogany 24 fret neck, 25.5 inch scale, ebony fretboard with jackson sharkfin inlays (abalone) and jumbo frets. compound radius, 7" towards the top, 14" towards the high end.

Stuff 3 pickups in there, a Duncan Distortion at the bridge, a (black) phat cat in the middle, a jazz at the neck. mustang style pickup switches above each pickup let you select on/off, series, parallel, or coil split wiring. (Except for the phat cat, cause it's a single coil)

All black hardware, push/pull pot on master tone switch for phase switch between bridge and neck pickups. Tonepros tunomatic bridge, string through body.

And NO binding anywhere on the guitar! Never liked the look of binding...

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

Well, I got a guy who custom builds all my guitars for me: Hartley Peavey

The thing is, he doesn't know it yet, and just charges me the off-the-shelf price. :laugh2:

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

Brian Moore of course :D
their contour super strat shape.
1 piece mahogany body, quilted maple top, neck-thru mahogany neck with painted black finish (think soloist style - i want the balls of mahogany but without the neck feeling like a baseball), ebony fingerboard (to give some high end edge to the sound, along with the maple top), H-H configuration with John Suhr custom wound pickups (probably low output ones for this kind of guitar), the bridge would probably be wilkinson, gotoh locking tuners, gold pickup rings, **** load of abalone binding all over the neck and headstock, finish would be something betweeen a sunburst and a rootbear kinda thing

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

I'd get abe rivera to make this same guitar that he built kevin eubanks

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

Aside from the TERRY CORSO guitar I'm in love with... here would be the joelap signature guitar.

Fender Cyclone Body in Ash
Graffiti Yellow finish
2 knobs for Volume/Volume
JB/Jazz Combo
3 way Gibson style switch (comes standard on cyclones)
Pearloid pickgaurd
Bigsby Tremolo Bridge
Maple neck/Ebony Fingerboard
Oversized 70s style headstock.
Grover Tuners
Schaller Straplocks

I think thats about everything

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

I'd have to try a load and see who makes the best neck.

Playability is very important to me, I won't play a guitar no matter how good it sounds if i'm not happy with the neck

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

For me, I'd have 2 built, both patterned after the late 60's SG Special:

  • Mahogany Body
Mahogany Neck-Thru-Body (as opposed to the normal glued in joint)
    Rosewood fingerboard
    Cherry Red Finish
PAF Humbuckers on one, P-90's on the other axe
Grover Pegs (or something as good)
    Standard Gibson-type hardware (stop-tailpiece, Tune-O-Matic bridge)
    LP/SG style pickguard
    Strap-Lock system
    Trapezoidal position markers
Abalone inlay of an owl's head in the headstock
    Coil-tap switches

This would make for one happpy, rockin' Owl!

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

I actually have it on order from Joe Driskill.

Driskill Diablo
Korina body
Maple top
Unfinished Indian Rosewood 24 fret neck
Bois de Rose fretboard
Paua "O" fretboard markers
Driskill Trem (machined from a single chunk of brass)
Chrome hardware
Pickups TBD (probably EVH)
"Blue Jean" finish
5-way blade switch (similar circuit to PRS 5-way)
Locking tuners (TBD: Schaller or Sperzel)

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

Jackson already made me mine in ´96

Dinky Reverse
22 Frets, 6100 wire (played down to medium jumbo already)
rosewood Board
Maple neck
dot inlays
Soloist profile
Bolt-on
Alder Body, black
2 point vintage trem w/ Graphtech saddles
JB neck, Custom Bridge
Schaller Straplocks
Gotoh Tuners
Graphite nut (about the 4th one already)

The question is , what´s next... Maybe a seven string Baritone Warrior or King Kelly in a Blood Drip graphic :32:

fair enuff
the LP shape is great too, im just more fond of double cutaway ordeals :burnout:

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

Some jackson soloist or a gibson les paul thing...not that i would want to really improve on a les paul that much....actually id get something kinda halfway between the two but more like a shred guitar with two humbuckers and a middle single, with a rounded sortof les paul like body but double cutaway and still cool looking like the blue one in the "i remember you" skid row video...but better and more customised with a thousand options, by jackson or someone like that ;)

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

I'd get a 000-28HD style acoustic with pre-WWII Martin specs and neck with 12 frets clear of the body. But not from Martin...I already have one of those and it's a great guitar. But I'd like to get one from Bill Collings.

And from the National Guitar company I'd love a early 30's style National Tri Cone resonator guitar like Bob Brozman's made out of German Silver...not brass or steel. Can't get German silver anymore.

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

Im in the process of designing a custom guitar in rememberance of my recently deceased Grandad. Here's the spec so far:

Les Paul style body (with reduced neck/body heel)
Mahogany neck with 22 fret Rosewood fretboard
Tunomatic bridge or Thru body stringing
2 PAF style humbuckers (maybe C5/PG or a set of A2P's)
Individual Volume and Tone controls
Push/Pull volume controls to split each Pickup
A push/pull tone control to reverse phase of pickups when both used together
Grover tuners
Crown inlays with HW at the 12th fret
'Brow' on the truss rod cover :D
Finished in a blue, purple or honey sunburst

I think thats it, might have missed out a detail or 2 though :)

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

Mahogany body carved top LP shape
-Tummy cut
-Additional carving on top - sort of bevel and smooth the edges back. think SG bevels only softer. should bring the weight down a bit, too
-contoured heel - if we're setting the neck we can get a much thinner joint than a stock LP
-TOM bridge, but string-thru rather than a tailpiece
-Dunlop recessed straplocks

Mahogany set neck - Clapton profile
-rosewood fretboard w/ 6105 frets
-split block inlays
-Grover tuners

Would probably load it with PGb/59n

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

hmmm

fender american toronado, white with black hardware/headstock, hot rail in the mid position

individual pickup on/off selector switches with volume knobs on the bottom

single cut ash body, set neck with similar feel to light ash telecaster, DR medium strings, ebony fretboard, i guess that about does it....oh man that'd be hott

Re: if you could have any custom shop make you a guitar?

The strat i have right now is pretty much everything i will ever want-All alder body with tummy cut, vintage tremolo, surfer pickups for SSS... the only thing that would be really out there custom would be the fretjob-it needs a real good leveling to get it really perfect. V shape neck, light satin finish on neck, maple fretboard.
