You can only use one type of humbucker for the rest of your life. You can only use active's or passives. Which type would you choose and why.

Passives are the only valid option for decent law-abiding citizens.

Actives just makes no sense to me anymore; you can still get screaming high gain with passive pups, why not keep the giant array of colors you can get with them, too? I see why people like them, but if you want to become a real player, they're just not the way to go.

Re: If you could have only one tupe of humbucker, would you take active or passive?

NO QUESTION ABOUT IT !!!

Passive all the way.

If i want great articulation under even theee biggest mountain of gain, i will opt for the DeathBucker.
There is just no need for batteries in my guitars.

Will somebody please tell me where the "ignore user" button is on this board? I cannot figure it out.

Passive! I don't like active pickups.

Re: If you could have only one tupe of humbucker, would you take active or passive?

Passives = NO BATTERIES, Plug-In & Rock n' Roll!!!!!

Dude, why don't you just shut your whiny ass mouth. For someone who likes to bi*** in every one of my threads, you sure enjoy clicking to come into them. GTFO troll

I see why people like them, but if you want to become a real player, they're just not the way to go.

Blanket statements like that hinder your argument far more than they help it.

I like both, but I'd pick passives without a doubt. If I only ever wanted to play the kind of music that commonly uses active pickups, I'd consider them. Yes, I know there are active pickups that aren't designed for high-output metal, but they're few and far between. As it is, there's nowhere near as many choices when it comes to active pickup models/brands compared to passive pickups.

I pick passives for variety moreso than tone. Also, I'd rather not have a battery in every guitar if I could avoid it. Active pickups have their place, but not in my music.

Re: If you could have only one tupe of humbucker, would you take active or passive?

kinda funny how much more actives are accepted amongst bass players than they are amongst guitar players.

Re: If you could have only one tupe of humbucker, would you take active or passive?

Less than a minute scrolling the forum topics will tell you which way the majority leans here...Simply put, the Seymour Duncan forums are 90% hardcore passive fans. Not saying that you won't find a good number of active fans or several members who take to both technologies positively, but your study group is a little biased in this case.
