If you decide to sell a tube amp, do you get new tubes for it?

Just wondering, if you are selling an amp do you get new tubes in there for the seller or do you sell it as is? This is assuming that there is nothing wrong with the current tubes.

if the tubes in there are say, a nice fresh set of New Old Stock Mullards, matched and wonderful....and will go into your next amp, or another amp you have, then yes, you buy a nice new set of Electro Harmonix and stick em in instead.

Most buyers don't believe you when you say "just put new tubes in" anyway, so why shell out big for nothing.

Ultimately, if you feel you want to, then do it with a tech and get him to invoice clearly, for proof.

But then again a new set, if it will make the amp sound better during demo, might decide/make the sale?

I just bought a Boogie on Ebay a few weeks ago. The original tubes were put back in the amp before it was shipped. I put a new set in like the third day. Just wanted a fresh starting point, and I did not do a lot of tweaking until this was done. My guess is most buyers would do the same as I did.

I'd sell it as is, stating how old the tubes are. Let the amp's new owner decide what tubes he/she wants to use. They probably have a preferred tube they'd rather have in there anyway!

It depends on the tubes and if I advertised them as going with the amp or not.

In most cases if I want the tubes that are in it then I will find something else to stick in there I don't mind parting with.

If I sold my Blue's Jr. I would probably put the stock tubes back in it...

Thanks for the comments guys. I wanted to see if putting new tubes in would increase the value. That looks to be not the case since in most cases people change the tubes shortly after getting the amp.

I'd say if the amp sounds great, don't put new tubes in. If one of them is microphonic or has some other issue, I'd replace it prior to sale.

It's like including a case with a guitar you're selling; it's a nice thing to do but it won't drive the price up any, and most people aren't expecting it anyway.
