I'm contemplating selling my amp gear.

What I'm thinking of doing is selling my amp and cab, and just using preamp pedals into a Two Notes C.A.B through some good speakers. What I've discovered about cab simulators and preamp pedals is that I can run them at a lower volume. This means no ear plugs, and the tone is still quite good. It's like hearing the recorded tone rather than the tone coming from the amp. That's just with the cab simulator on my AMT P2, which is known to be mediocre as far as cab sims go.

I could always buy an amp down the road.

It's what I do. I never play live or anything, everything I would do is recorded into the computer. What you *could* do is sell the cab and keep the amp, and get an attenuator / load (or one of the Two Notes units that has an attenuator) and use the effects out into a cab sim.

Just got a Pod HD for that same reason. It can do anything from being a looper, a nice digital delay, low latency i/o, MIDI control, amp sim, cab impulse sim for a head or amp-in-a-box, or all at the same time.

when I get a decent amp, it'll probably be hangin out in the effects loop, being a delay and reverb.

Yeah, I considered that, but I'm not really happy with my amp as it is anyway. The only things I really like it for are cleans and slight overdrive. Even that just sounds OK. I could probably get a reverb pedal and another preamp pedal to sound better than it, anyway.

Exactly why I got a Kemper.

My Mark V is the amp equivalent of a Ferrari 458 Italia: amazing and beautiful, but really, really, really impractical 95% of the time.

The Kemper is ideal because I can get the tone of the Mark V (I profiled it) at home with headphones or studio monitors. Plus hundreds of other guitar tones. It's even replaced the vast majority of my pedal board.

If I had the dough I'd buy a Kemper in a second.

Try one first. I sold mine after a few weeks. They're great for capturing your own rig, but not everyone's rig is going to work for you. I went through tons of profiles and didn't find anything that made it worth the $1800-ish pricetag, and the built in tweaking was very limited. I think if they come out with a second generation that is a little more versatile I'll try it again.

That's why I'm set on eventually getting an Axe FX II. They're alot more tweakable than a Kemper and can also clone an amp. The details are available in the MIMIC white paper, and the manual here: http://www.fractalaudio.com/p-axe-fx-ii-preamp-fx-processor.php

If you're a guy like me that likes to mod stuff, it's kind of a dream come true.

Re: I'm contemplating selling my amp gear.

OP, if you want to talk about the Two Notes C.A.B, you're probably better off going to TGP, I know there are some actual users over there.

It sounds like you'd be better off with an Axe FX than a Kemper. Considering your budget, I'd look hard at the 11 Rack. Jolly even has one for sale, he might give you a good deal on it.
