I figured I would do this for you all, so be prepared to hear sound samples of all of the pickup configurations in my signature in a few weeks.
Honestly, I don't know how long it will take me to do them all. Seeing as how I don't have to pay for any of this, I guess it all really depends on when my buddy can fit me in to his schedule. I'm going to try and record my five Gibson Les Pauls today.
My plan is to record them in a song type setting somewhat the way I did my last Duncan pickup soundclips years ago. There will be drums and bass going along in the clips. I'm going to kind of have this big full chord intro followed by a riff in which a solo (bridge pickup) is played over. It will then go to a clean part which uses both the bridge and neck pickups together at the same time. There will be a little lead type lick (neck pickup) that is played over that clean part. I will then probably go back into the main riff and then end the song. My guess is that each pickup sound sample will be around two to two and a half minutes long.
I'm going to use my Marshall JVM410H as the amp. I'm going to keep all of the settings pretty much flat for the most part so that you will really be able to hear the differences in the pickups. I'll probably keep the bass, middle, and treble all at around one o'clock or so. I may even take a 5150 half stack along with me, but I'm not sure yet.
I really don't even know how much will even get done today. I've got to lay down the bass and drum tracks as well.
Hopefully I will get these combinations recorded today.

Now I know I'm not playing all of these in the same guitar, and they all don't have the same pots, and all the woods aren't the same, and some of the guitars have a Floyd Rose, and all that blah blah blah crap, but give me a freakin break. If you're going to be all worried about that crap then don't listen to them. You'll be able to hear the same riffing going on with the same amp, the same amp settings, played by the same player, and in a "song type" setting.
And if any of you are worried about the competency of who will be engineering and recording me, you shouldn't. He knows what he's doing. He's Kings of Leon's front of house soundman and he's been doing this for a long time. He knows the reason why I'm doing it, and he thinks it's a great idea and wants to make everything perfect. He's got a really nice studio at his house as well.
