I'm Going To Go In The Studio Today And Record A Bunch Of Pickup Sound Samples

Re: I'm Going To Go In The Studio Today And Record A Bunch Of Pickup Sound Samples

Holy Crap, that's awesome!

Seriously, this is quite an undertaking. We're involved with something similar ourselves, but using the same guitars.

Don't breathe too many solder fumes. Better yet, use a Liberator. And good luck.
Well, I shouldn't do this, but what the hell, right? This is a very very rough draft of what we're working on, and there's going to be a few changes here and there, Evan.

And I laughed at the "Holy Crap":)

I hope ya'll dig where Brent and I are coming from.

Wow, and far out. I can't say as I was actually looking for that response, but I really appreciate that!! It's a response like that that makes me do things like this. Hell, my jaw is to the floor with your kindness.

I'm just doing this to help other folks out, and I hope it does. Thanks again for your positive response. That means alot!!:)

Hopefully the final producct will be much better. Thanks again!!

Seriously, Jolly, this sounds great, brother. I would put this on my iPod in a heartbeat. Seriously, it beats a lot of what I listen to on a daily basis. Your clips have always had something about them that showed the passion you have for music, and this is no exception. It seriously sounds phenomenal.

Oh, and everyone who doesn't like the Custom can blow me.

Re: I'm Going To Go In The Studio Today And Record A Bunch Of Pickup Sound Samples

Really goes to show you that it's the player - not the pickup. If you're a real musician who can make real music, you can make any good pickup (like the 59) sound awesome.

So many complaints about this pickup or that pickup being too trebley, too bassy, too thin, too thick, too muddy, too this, too that - most of it's complete bullsh!t coming from inexperienced players, playing through sh!tty gear, who can't really play yet and they're blaming the pickup.

Great playing Jolly. Great arranging and song writing too.

couldn't agree more TONE IS IN YOUR FINGERS/SOUL NOT YOUR GEAR!

and THANK YOU JOLLY I CANNOT WAIT TO HEAR THIS WHEN IT'S ALL DONE!

Re: I'm Going To Go In The Studio Today And Record A Bunch Of Pickup Sound Samples

why is anyone surprised that someone can make the 59 in a les paul sound good ??? The 59 is a great pickup.

I agree. I wasn't surprised at that at all. To be honest, if you know how to work your settings and gear ANYTHING can be made to sound good.
I was more surprised at the quality of the recording and the writing.

Re: I'm Going To Go In The Studio Today And Record A Bunch Of Pickup Sound Samples

I think the purpose of things like this isn't to show the quality of the pickups but rather the subtleties that are inherent to each model so that people that play tastefully and with skill can find the last 5% of the tonal equation that leads to tonal nirvana.

It's to show the little subjective nuances that tone chasers are after.

Wow, that sounds awesome! Will you do a heavy one too? :)
