I'm gonna make an album.

Now that you've all finished laughing, I mean it.

It's not going to be a 'Flying in a Blue Dream' sort of album, it's not even going to be an album for guitar players to listen to.

It's going to be for Mr and Mrs Average. People who like guitar music but aren't into the progressive stuff that Rid does so well.

Rid is a guitar players guitarist.

This one will be far more accessible.

In the piano world you have (or had) Liberace. A dopey smiling Queen that played complete garbage - but died a richer man the old Seymour himself.

Richard Clayderman was anothe multi-millionaire player of rubbish.

So I think that there IS a market if I can do it well enough.

Now I think of it. G3 never filled the Nottingham Royal Centre - but Hank Marvin (Shadows) filled it weeks ahead of his tour - and at a higher ticket price.

So what I will do is put together an album of those daft Godfather/Eleanor Rigby type tracks but maybe just a little more edge (thanks Nuntius).

Am I totally out of my tree or am I making sense?

This is the type of thing I mean (as usual it's just a rough idea at the moment).

Re: I'm gonna make an album.

go for it lee.

what piece is that ? i've heard it before. nice even playing on it.

Nobody has to be steve vai standard to make a good album. i rate the eagles guitar wise higher than him anyway, the solos do more for me than shredding.

a good melody is better than a sweep arpeggio any day... hell maybe even better than a pinch harmonic :D

Good luck man :)

Re: I'm gonna make an album.

Lee great Idea, dunno why you'd think your being crazy as the way people make it in anything is by taking chances , expermenting and trying new things to see what works, Go for it bro..

And good luck..

Re: I'm gonna make an album.

Isn't that how the pop-punk and nu-metal revolution started :laugh2:

No seriously if you feel the world needs it, why not? I'd love to hear it.

Re: I'm gonna make an album.

I really don't see why you should not try it... who dares win.

Your concept is not that crazy aside from the fact that being such a guitar player will destroy any credibility you have forever and that your crowd will be composed of 60-year-old fat, ugly women wearing cheap perfume and badly-adjusted dentures :laugh2:

But hey, maybe you'll laugh to the bank! ;)

Re: I'm gonna make an album.

It doesn't have to be complete trash to be listenable to. I can do a theme and variations on a piece. I may even cover the Mendelson and Tchiakovski violin concertos.

Just because a theme is well-known doesn't disqualify it as legitimate music.

Releasing an album is a capitalist venture regardless of the music style.

I just happen to think it has a much better chance of reaching the market.

Not only that - fat ugly 60 years olds buy albums rather than using Kasaa.

Re: I'm gonna make an album.

well.. you do your own thing, die poor or you get to grab luck by the tail and what you play will become popular

or, you join the mainstream and get filthy rich, but sell your soul to corporate *******s

you could also target a wider, more mature audience with 'ambience' music that goes into the ear and get to make some money with it.. i see no problem in that. it can be quite fun also =)

flying in a blue dream and stuff like vai is targeted at a specific audience. guitarists, period

Re: I'm gonna make an album.

Not that I think the music won't be legitimate, but critics are pretty hard on musicians for the people. Liberace was a great pianist actually. But did he ever had credibilty? No. Thus is famous statement.

I think you should hit a little higher Lee, be a Liberace Plus of the guitar. As western populations grow older, there is a big market for softer, soothing music. This is a great market and like you say, those people BUY albums.

Re: I'm gonna make an album.

The thing is, I can make 100 albums for £50.
I'll send them to radio stations and record companies.

What's £50 to be able to call yourself a 'recording artist'?

It won't be as bland as you seem to think, but I'd like to make albums that would suit driving the car, dinner party, late night under stars, hot night in the sack.

Surely it's worth a try.

If that doesn't work I'll pinch a few of Rids recordings.
